Job Description
PURPOSE:
The Lead Trim Carpenter is responsible for overseeing and performing high-quality finish carpentry work, including the installation of doors and interior trim. This role leads a crew, ensures projects are completed on time, and maintains strict quality standards while coordinating with supervisors and other trades.
DESCRIPTION
Lead and supervise a crew of trim carpenters and apprentices Install and oversee installation of: Interior and exterior doors (pre-hung and slab) Baseboards, crown molding, and specialty trim Door/window casings and built-ins Read blueprints, layouts, and finish schedules Measure, cut, and install materials with precision Ensure proper reveals, alignment, and finish quality Train and mentor apprentices and less-experienced carpenters Coordinate daily tasks and job site workflow Communicate with project managers, superintendents, and other trades Identify and resolve installation issues or material discrepancies Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean work area Enforce job site safety standards EquipmentTools Miter saws, table saws, routers Nail guns (finish, brad, framing) Levels, squares, laser levels Hand tools and layout tools
KNOWLEDGEEXPERIENCE
High school diploma or GED required 4-8+ years in trim or finish carpentry Proven leadership or crew lead experience Experience in both residential and/or commercial projects Advanced understanding of finish carpentry techniques Strong knowledge of door installation and hardware basics Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications Understanding of trim layouts, angles, and material types Knowledge of construction sequencing and job site coordination
