Job Description Schedule:

Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm (40 hours per week) Position Summary Reporting to the Senior Building Trades Supervisor, the Carpenter performs a variety of woodworking and repair duties essential to the upkeep of Vassar's campus. This is a full time, in-person, CWA Union position for the Full Year. Responsibilities Perform a variety of woodworking duties, including but not limited to rough carpentry, finish carpentry, installation and repair of hardware, flooring, windows, doors, etc. Perform all duties in a safe and professional manner and in accordance with established Vassar College and departmental policies and procedures. Upkeep of all tools and maintaining all Vassar owned equipment assigned to the employee. Maintain a safe and clean working environment daily. Communicate and work effectively with other trades. Perform other duties as assigned to assist the department in obtaining and maintaining its mission. Required knowledge, skills and abilities High school diploma, vocational training or equivalent required. A minimum of five years experience in all phases of carpentry. Academic trade or schooling is a plus, however it is not a substitute for experience. Furniture repair experience and some knowledge of cabinet work. Knowledgeable in the use of various hand and power tools and their maintenance relative to all scopes of the carpentry. Knowledge of carpentry methods and mathematics necessary. Ability to communicate effectively in English, including understanding, speaking, reading and writing. Good interpersonal skills. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently as well as in a team environment. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license for at least 2 years. Ability to perform repeated bending, squatting, stooping, pushing, and pulling. Ability to stand and walk for a prolonged period of time. Ability to move, position, place and transport objects up to and including 75 pounds. Ability to ascend and descend ladders and scaffolding. Willingness to work overtime as available. Overtime is assigned according to seniority guidelines. Compensation $37.52 per hour Work At Vassar Benefits
