General Description:
Under direction, supervises and/or performs skilled carpentry and cabinetwork at the journeyman level.
Essential Responsibilities:
Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position. Plans, supervises and participates in skilled carpentry work in the maintenance buildings and/or the erection of new construction or additions to existing structures. Determines materials and supplies needed and assigns specific tasks to subordinate carpenters and helpers. Performs and gives detailed instructions on the more difficult interior and exterior trim work and constructions. Demonstrated the best methods of doing skilled carpentry work. Sees the work is carried out according to plans and specifications and is properly correlated with to the trade. Instructs and trains helpers of lower grade. Checks work in progress and upon completion. Supervises and performs cabinet work in the construction, assembly and repair of wood and wood substitute articles, such as chairs, table, desks, doors, windows, cabinets, built-ins, office, and shop equipment. Selects woodworking machinery, attachments, accessories and cutting tools suitable to producing the end result. Utilizes power equipment such as planers, jointers, power saws, shapers, and other woodworking equipment. Makes estimates, prepares requisitions for materials, and supervises materials stores. Maintains records and reports of time, materials and supplies used and work performed.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience required. Four (4) or more years of carpentry experience preferred. License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in carpentry. Knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary in the carpentry trade. Considerable knowledge of cabinet making principles, methods, tools and equipment. Knowledge of building codes, supervisory and instructional techniques and methods. Ability to follow oral and written directions. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Ability to perform both finished carpentry and cabinetwork. Skill in preparing rough sketches of work and estimates of materials and labor. Ability to read blueprints and work from plans and specifications.
