Pay Basis Hourly Job Summary The Carpenter Leader will provide advanced journeyman-level skills in the performance of carpentry work. Responsible for the layout, installation, repairing, finishing, and maintaining of various structure, fixtures, and buildings by using power and hand tools in a safe manner. Responsible for maintaining accurate records and helping assign and carry out work as required. Assist Supervisor in all phases of the carpenter work. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Perform new and repair work on all phases of carpentry, construction, cabinetry, building maintenance, building modifications, and demolition, including but not limited to: Framing; wood and metal materials; rubber and vinyl trim and finish carpentry; sheetrock hanging; concrete forming, rebar, pouring, and finishing; door, door jamb, door closer, and hinge installation; suspended ceilings; tile and grid work; vinyl and ceramic tile; cabinet construction, repairs, and modifications. Maintenance, repairs, and modifications of existing structures, including but not limited to doors, walls, windows, floors, mounted fixtures, ceilings, furniture, chairs, and all other campus seating. Lead and train carpenters and other trades on carpentry and related repairs; assist various trades in performing necessary repair work associated with work orders; provide guidance to various trades in the repair of carpenter-related tasks. Assist Supervisor in maintaining accurate records and carrying out job assignments on or before the scheduled deadlines. Act as a Shop representative to University Departments while performing work assignments. Drive a university vehicle to and from job assignments. Performs other duties assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent. Five (5) years of experience in performing a variety of Skilled/journeyman maintenance and repair tasks. Experience with effectively execute oral and written instructions in English. This position requires you to have and maintain a Texas Class "C" Operator's Driver's License and three (3) years of acceptable driving history. Preferred Qualifications Basic computer skills and knowledge of computer-generated work order system and timekeeping systems. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge, skill, and safe operation of shop and hand/power tools, including but not limited to table saws, jointers, planers, shapers, routers, band saws, circular saws, jigsaws, miter saws, radial arm saws, chop saws, drill presses, electric and battery-operated hand drills and screw guns, pneumatic hammers, power-actuated fastening systems, and other typical power and hand tools as applicable to the carpenter, construction, and building maintenance trades. Must have excellent communication skills. Must be able to estimate labor and material costs. Ability to Work in a diverse environment that Encourages, supports, and promotes diversity initiatives. Ability to understand, follow, and explain work orders, drawings, and written and verbal instructions. Other Requirements Alertness and careful attention is required to avoid injury to self and to others. Assist other shops as needed. Act as Project Manager/Leader on the project site, assisting with instructing over employees on site. Must be able to respond to emergency calls, which can include Fires, electrical outages, floods and icy conditions. Working conditions are considered acceptable but occasionally involve exposure to one or more disagreeable elements such as biohazards, toxic lab chemicals, poisonous gases dust, dirt, and the need to work in confined spaces, extreme cold or hot and all-weather conditions.
