Full-Time Carpenter

Primary Purpose Under general supervision, perform skilled work in construction, alteration, repair, and installation of fixtures, buildings, and structures throughout the district. Maintain district structures and furniture in attractive and safe condition.

Qualifications Education/Certification:

High School Diploma, equivalency, preferred Valid Texas Driver's license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of equipment, materials, methods, practices, and tools used in carpentry Ability to use hand and power tools Ability to follow written and verbal instruction Ability to measure and perform mathematical computations Ability to work independently 3 years general construction experience, preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties Plan and complete construction of cabinets, shelves, and partitions from initial layout to assembly using oral instructions, plans, specifications, blueprints, and work orders. Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates. Fabricate, repair, and replace doors, windows, flooring, ceiling materials, glass, building hardware, screens, plastic laminate, wooden surfaces, etc. Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment by following established inspection procedures. Replace, repair, and finish furniture, cabinets, fixtures, woodwork, etc. Assist with the installation and moving of portable buildings, including constructing steps, installing underpinning, etc. Receive and complete work orders in a timely and efficient manner. Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean and remove scraps and lumber as needed. Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects. Respond to emergency calls as needed. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc. Assist other technicians in the maintenance department as needed or directed. Attend department and district meetings and trainings as required. Maintains confidentiality of information. Exemplifies high standards of ethical conduct according to District Policy. Displays tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for criticism of duty performance. Works in harmony with supervisory and peer personnel. Is task-focused and does not socialize excessively. Supports administrative policy. Is prompt at arriving at workstation at the beginning of each working day. Represents the school system to the community in a positive professional way. Maintains a sincere, friendly attitude toward visitors and patrons to insure communication. Performs other duties as assigned. Physical:

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching; heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.) and carrying.

Environment:

Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions; outside and inside; on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, ladders, and scaffolding; and around machinery with moving parts. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, excessive noises, fumes, and toxic chemicals.

Other:

Frequent prolongedand irregular hours; frequent districtwide travel.
