This is a hands-on position responsible for two areas of work: building the wooden crates, pallets, and packaging that protect our architectural building materials in transit, and working on our reclaimed wood products, including antique doors, furniture, flooring, beams, and other architectural elements. The Carpenter will build and prepare custom crates and pallets, pack and secure customer orders, prepare stone samples, and repair, restore, modify, and prepare reclaimed wood pieces for sale and installation. The role also supports the team with material handling, receiving, and day-to-day workshop and yard operations. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys physical work, has a genuine feel for wood and craftsmanship, takes pride in doing things correctly, and works well as part of a team. Our materials can be heavy, fragile, and valuable, so sound carpentry, attention to detail, and safe material handling are essential. Duties & Responsibilities Crating & Packing Build custom wooden crates, pallets, skids, and bracing for customer orders and outgoing shipments, sized and reinforced to suit the material being shipped. Measure, cut, and assemble lumber and plywood using hand tools, power tools, and fasteners to produce sturdy, well-built crating. Pack and secure stone, tile, wood, architectural elements, and other materials inside crates using blocking, bracing, padding, and strapping to prevent damage during transportation. Maintain an organized supply of lumber, plywood, fasteners, and crating materials, and notify the team when supplies are running low. Reclaimed Wood Products Repair, restore, and stabilize antique and reclaimed wood pieces, including doors, furniture, shutters, beams, flooring, and paneling, while preserving their original character and patina. Modify reclaimed pieces to customer specifications, such as resizing doors, fitting hardware, squaring frames, replacing damaged sections, and preparing pieces for installation. Build or assemble frames, jambs, bases, and other components needed to complete reclaimed wood pieces for sale. Clean, de-nail, sort, and prepare reclaimed lumber and architectural elements for inventory, display, or customer orders. Work with the sales team and workshop lead to review pieces, confirm dimensions and details, and complete custom requests accurately and on time. Material Handling & Workshop Support Assist with order fulfillment, including locating, pulling, staging, counting, packing, and preparing materials for shipment or customer pickup. Prepare stone and material samples for customers and the sales team, including selecting, cutting or breaking down materials as directed, labeling, packing, and organizing samples. Load and unload materials from trucks, containers, pallets, and storage areas. Assist with receiving incoming shipments and containers, including uncrating and inspecting materials. Move and stage materials throughout the workshop and yard using appropriate material-handling equipment. Verify quantities when pulling, receiving, or moving materials and report discrepancies to the team. Maintain clean and organized work areas, including the woodshop, crating, sampling, shipping, and yard areas. Safely use and maintain saws, drills, planers, sanders, nail guns, and other hand and power tools required for carpentry, crating, and material preparation. Follow company procedures for safely handling heavy, fragile, and high-value architectural materials. Assist warehouse, inventory, and operations team members with additional tasks as needed. Follow all company safety procedures and immediately report damaged materials, unsafe conditions, or equipment issues. Qualifications Previous experience in carpentry, woodworking, furniture making or repair, cabinetry, door installation, restoration, or a similar hands-on trade preferred. Experience working with reclaimed, antique, or salvaged wood is a strong plus. Experience building crates, pallets, or shipping packaging for heavy or fragile goods is a plus. Experience handling stone, tile, masonry, or other heavy materials is a plus. Proficient with hand and power tools, including circular saws, miter saws, table saws, drills, planers, sanders, and pneumatic nailers. Ability to read a tape measure accurately, take precise measurements, and work from verbal or written instructions, sketches, or dimensioned drawings. Basic understanding of joinery, fasteners, and wood repair techniques; ability to match or blend repairs to existing material is a plus. Ability to accurately count materials and follow written and verbal instructions. Dependable, punctual, and able to work effectively as part of a team. Strong attention to detail and respect for the character of antique materials. Ability to work safely in a fast-paced workshop and outdoor yard environment. Ability to regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds and assist with heavier or oversized materials using team lifting or material-handling equipment. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, and perform physical work throughout the workday. Ability to work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Forklift experience is a plus but not required. Position Environment This is a hands-on skilled trade position based in our woodshop, crating area, warehouse, and yard. The workday is split between building and packing crates, working on reclaimed wood pieces, and general material handling, with regular use of woodworking and power tools. The successful candidate will be reliable, safety-conscious, organized, willing to learn, and ready to help wherever needed to keep customer orders and materials moving efficiently and arriving intact.
