Job Description

Work Schedule and Other Information HRSD's apprenticeship programs are a combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction. All can be completed in three or four years. You must be willing to work your scheduled shift and attend class during working hours. A Math Skills Assessment Test is required prior to entry into HRSD's Apprenticeship Program. Brief Description Under broad guidance, the Carpenter is responsible for constructing, repairing, altering, and maintaining wood structures and buildings. This includes building and repairing wood furnishings and performing related tasks as required. The Carpenter also prepares wood, metals, plaster, and sheetrock surface for painting, and performs the painting of building interiors and exteriors as needed. Additionally, the role includes supervising and training one or more apprentice carpenters. Detailed Description Job Requirements Education Required Entry level: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED certification Fully qualified: Completion of carpentry apprentice program or equivalent classroom training, as determined by the apprenticeship committee.
Experience Required Entry level:
Preference is given to candidates with at least one year of experience in carpentry and painting trades.
Fully qualified:
Completion of an on-the-job portion of the Apprenticeship Program, or qualified Carpenter journey worker certification, or at least six years of experience in the Carpenter trade. Desired Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in constructing, repairing, and altering buildings and structures, as well as in repairing furniture and furnishings Knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools or equipment used in painting wood, metal, plaster, or sheetrock surfaces Experience with planning and coordinating large-scale construction projects Knowledge of computers and experience with basic MS Office programs i.e.: Word, Excel, & Outlook.
