Job Description

Foreman / Senior Working Carpenter Avonteer — Dorset, Vermont | Full-time, In person | $35-45/hour based on experience Overview Avonteer is a contracting company in Dorset, Vermont focused on thoughtful renovations, additions, and custom woodworking — both for homeowners and Avonteer Owned Homes in the area. Our projects are detail-driven and built to last. This is a working foreman role. You'll run the job site day to day, but you'll be on the tools alongside the crew. You'll work directly with the owners on everything from structural framing to finish carpentry and custom details. Whether you are currently a foreman or you've been running jobs informally and want the title, the authority, and steady year-round work, this is that opportunity.
Responsiblities:
Running the job Lead daily site operations — crew assignments, sequencing, priorities Read plans, run layout, and verify dimensions before work begins Coordinate subs, deliveries, and inspections to hold the schedule Handle material takeoffs and order ahead of the crew Own quality control and punch lists; set the safety standard on site Communicate clearly with owners and clients on progress and obstacles On the tools Framing, trim carpentry, and general renovation work Install doors, windows, cabinetry, drywall, siding with proper fit and finish Take on the difficult details that need the most experienced hands Mentor less experienced carpenters and keep the site clean and staged What We're Looking For Substantial residential carpentry experience, including time leading a crew Strong framing and finish skills — comfortable across rough and high-end trim Able to read plans, run layout, and solve problems without waiting on direction Comfortable working with subs, suppliers, and inspectors Reliability, professionalism, honesty, and a strong work ethic Valid driver's license and dependable transportation A plus if you have experience with older Vermont homes, timber framing, custom millwork Benefits $35-45/hour, based on experience 401(k) with matching Tools provided On-the-job training Steady year-round work in the greater Manchester/Dorset area
