Job Description

Job Summary:
The Estimator leads the preparation of comprehensive, accurate cost estimates for infrastructure, site, and utility projects. This role is responsible for managing the entire bid process from initial review through final submission. The Estimator analyzes plans and specifications, performs detailed quantity take-offs, solicits and evaluates subcontractor and supplier pricing, and leverages historical cost data to develop competitive pricing strategies while appropriately managing risk. Completed estimates are presented to supervision for review and approval prior to submission. The Estimator is expected to work collaboratively and productively with all members of Big Rock Paving, LLC, Rylind Construction Company, Inc., and Rylind Traffic Services, LLC.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
  • Willingness to travel to any and all job sites as required, including overnight stays.
  • Determine accurate job costs based on plans, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Perform and review detailed quantity take-offs for earthwork, structures, utilities, and paving.
  • Analyze construction plans, technical specifications, and owner requirements.
  • Solicit, review, and analyze quotes from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers.
  • Identify project risks, develop bid strategies, and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
  • Develop preliminary project schedules and prepare final project budgets.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and conduct site visits to assess site conditions and potential challenges.
  • Establish industry-responsible and competitive bids.
  • Coordinate construction means and methods with field supervision to develop accurate and achievable cost assumptions.
  • Evaluate and document bid results to understand competitor approaches and pricing trends.
  • Coordinate means and methods with third-party engineers when applicable.
  • Read, interpret, and evaluate construction drawings and specifications.
  • Utilize company-approved estimating software effectively.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Must have reliable transportation, follow attendance policy and be ready to work at their designated start time.
  • Must pass a drug screen prior to employment and maintain a drug-free status.
Must be able to work with limited supervision.
Education and Experience:
  • High school or equivalent, technical school or college experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' work experience.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Minimum two (2) years estimating Heavy Highway work.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and carry up to 100 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb, bend, stoop, kneel, lift overhead, work at heights, walk/work in rough terrain in order to access equipment, tools, materials, and jobsite in order to complete work.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and kneel for long periods of time.
  • Position may require frequent walking throughout the jobsite.
  • Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease, and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.
  • Must be able to make repetitive motions with all limbs.
  • Must be able to move two or more limbs together.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must be able to work the hours necessary in order to achieve the goals of the company.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
