A Concrete Finisher works with cement workers in a construction process. Smoothes and levels concrete that has been poured, monitors concrete as it hardens, and applies sealants as needed.
About the Role We're looking for a skilled Formwork/Concrete Foreman to lead field crews building and setting formwork, placing embeds and reinforcing steel, and executing cast-in-place concrete to line, grade, and finish. This is a working foreman role — you're on the tools, on the deck, and responsible for what your crew produces.
This is heavy civil work:
structural loads at depth, tight tolerances, and inspection by municipal owners and engineers of record — not residential or light-commercial carpentry. What You'll Do Build, erect, plumb, align, brace, and strip formwork for cast-in-place structures (wet wells, base slabs, walls, box culverts, headwalls, equipment pads, and more) Assemble and set engineered forming systems per manufacturer specs, tie schedules, and allowable form pressures Set bulkheads, waterstop, blockouts, embeds, anchor bolts, and cast-in items to approved shop drawings Place, tie, and support reinforcing steel to placing drawings Lead concrete placements: pour sequencing, vibration, consolidation, screeding, floating, troweling, and finish Lead and supervise the carpentry/concrete crew, running a daily production plan Train and mentor crew members; coordinate with the Superintendent and Project Manager Enforce safety standards and compliance with OSHA and VOSH regulations Own dimensional control — verify line, grade, plumb, square, and elevation before concrete is ordered Read and work from civil and structural plans, sections, reinforcing schedules, and shop drawings What You Bring 5+ years of formwork and cast-in-place concrete experience in civil, heavy civil, utility, industrial, marine, or structural construction 2+ years in a leadership or foreman role Demonstrated ability to build and set structural formwork to tolerance — walls, slabs, and vertical structures Working knowledge of OSHA and VOSH construction requirements Strong communication and leadership skills Valid driver's license and acceptable motor vehicle record (CDL a plus) OSHA 10-Hour Construction at hire; OSHA 30-Hour Construction within twelve months (provided) Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, and to meet access requirements for federal/military installations in Hampton Roads Reliable daily attendance and flexibility for overtime, Saturdays, and occasional night/shifted-start work Preferred Qualifications Pump station, wet well, box culvert, treatment plant, bridge, or marine structural experience Hands-on experience with engineered forming systems (EFCO, Symons, Peri, Doka, or comparable) Experience with support-of-excavation systems and active dewatering Confined space entry, competent person, and rigging/signal person training Completed carpentry apprenticeship or equivalent formal craft training ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I Bilingual English/Spanish Proficiency with Procore, HeavyJob, or comparable field reporting platforms What We Offer Competitive salary and benefits package Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance (3 medical plans to choose from) Company-paid Life, Short-Term Disability, and Long-Term Disability Insurance Flexible Spending Account & Health Savings Account Paid Time Off & Tuition Reimbursement Employee Assistance Program #ConcreteForeman #FormworkJobs #HeavyCivilConstruction #ConstructionJobs #ConcreteConstruction #CivilConstruction Application Question(s): Do you have 5+ years of formwork and cast-in-place concrete experience in civil, heavy civil, utility, industrial, marine, or structural construction?
