Job Description

Concrete Construction Working Superintendent Hampton Roads / Virginia Beach Region Job Summary Bayside Concrete, Inc., a leading commercial and industrial concrete contractor serving Southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina, is seeking an experienced Working Concrete Construction Superintendent to lead field operations on commercial and industrial concrete projects throughout the Hampton Roads region. This is a hands-on field leadership role responsible for supervising crews, coordinating daily construction activities, and driving projects safely and efficiently from layout through completion. Firm requirements include the ability to establish line and grade from known control points and perform precise layout of foundation walls, columns, anchor bolts, embeds, and related structural elements. Candidates must be experienced in reading construction documents, coordinating field execution, and leading crews in a fast-paced commercial construction environment. This position offers the opportunity to work on large-scale, high-profile projects with long-term career growth and advancement potential. The Superintendent will oversee all phases of concrete construction operations, including structural foundations, cast-in-place concrete, elevated decks, structural form systems, and site concrete work. The ideal candidate brings strong technical knowledge, leadership ability, and the capability to effectively manage manpower, subcontractors, schedules, equipment, and materials while maintaining high standards for quality, production, and jobsite safety.
Key Responsibilities Field Operations Management:
Oversee daily construction activities on commercial and industrial concrete projects from mobilization through project completion.
Field Engineering Skills:
Ability to establish line & grade from a known control point. Precise layout of building foundation walls, columns, anchor bolts, and embeds.
Crew Leadership:
Supervise field personnel, foremen, laborers, operators, and subcontractors to ensure productivity, efficiency, and quality workmanship.
Scheduling & Coordination:
Coordinate manpower, equipment, deliveries, and subcontractors to maintain project schedules and meet critical deadlines.
Blueprint & Plan Interpretation:
Read and interpret blueprints, structural drawings, engineering plans, shop drawings, rebar drawings, anchor bolt layouts, and specifications.
Concrete Construction Oversight:
Manage all aspects of concrete construction including foundations, slabs, elevated decks, walls, columns, structural forming systems, and placement operations.
Quality Control:
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with project specifications, contract documents, and company quality standards.
Safety Compliance:
Promote and enforce all company safety policies and OSHA regulations to maintain a safe and organized jobsite.
Equipment Management:
Operate and oversee the safe operation of heavy equipment and construction tools as needed.
Problem Solving:
Identify and resolve field issues proactively to minimize delays and maintain project efficiency.
Project Communication:
Maintain clear communication with project managers, owners, inspectors, engineers, subcontractors, and field personnel.
Daily Reporting:
Prepare and maintain daily reports, schedules, manpower tracking, and progress updates.
Site Inspections:
Conduct regular jobsite inspections to ensure safety, quality, cleanliness, and adherence to project requirements. Qualifications Extensive experience in commercial and industrial concrete construction. Strong working knowledge of structural foundations, structural forming systems, elevated decks, and cast-in-place concrete operations. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and shop drawings with a high level of accuracy. Proven leadership experience managing field crews and subcontractors on active construction sites. Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and coordination. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment. Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and jobsite safety best practices. Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment safely and efficiently preferred.
Education & Experience Experience:
Minimum 5 years of superintendent or field leadership experience in commercial concrete construction required.
Education:
Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred but not required with relevant experience.
Certifications:
