Location:
SF Bay Area (majority of work in Concord and Walnut Creek) About the Role We are hiring a Working Foreman for our commercial construction projects. This is a working foreman role; you will spend the majority of your day doing hands-on carpentry alongside your crew, while also owning project scheduling, quality control, material coordination, and day-to-day supervision on site.
This role requires both:
The physical stamina and skill to perform journeyman-level carpentry work every day, and Proven experience managing a crew, assigning tasks, training junior carpenters, coordinating subcontractors, and being accountable for the job site from start to finish. We are specifically looking for someone who has done both before not someone transitioning into leadership for the first time, and not someone who leads from the trailer. The ideal candidate can take a project from plans to punch list, anticipate problems before they become delays, and find solutions in the field rather than escalating every issue. Physical Requirements (Please Review Carefully Before Applying) This is physically demanding, active field work performed daily, not occasionally.
You must be able to:
Lift and carry up to 80 lbs regularly throughout the workday Stand, kneel, bend, and crouch for extended periods Climb and work from ladders, scaffolding, and lifts Perform overhead work (installing, framing, mounting) for sustained periods Work in active construction environments (dust, noise, varying temperatures, uneven surfaces, indoor and outdoor) Use hand and power tools continuously throughout a full shift Be on your feet for the majority of an 8+ hour shift, on a consistent basis for the duration of employment, with reasonable accommodation where applicable Craft Requirements (Hands-On Carpentry) Journeyman-level skill across demolition, layout, framing (wood and metal), trim carpentry, and drywall installation Moderate understanding of electrical and plumbing requirements on the jobsite Ability to read plans and translate them into accurate job site layout and a clear order of operations for sequencing work Ability to take a project from site layout through final punch list, start to finish Experience with material take-offs, ordering, and coordinating deliveries Comfortable working independently and producing high-quality finish work under time pressure Skilled in blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and construction documents Leadership Requirements (Crew & Project Management) Minimum 4 years directly supervising a carpentry crew assigning daily tasks, managing schedules, and holding crew accountable to quality and timeline Experience training and mentoring less experienced carpenters on-site Direct experience coordinating with customers/clients on scope, timelines, and job requirements Working knowledge of the full building process sufficient to effectively direct and coordinate subcontractors in: flooring, drywall tape and texture, T-Bar (suspended) ceiling systems, electrical, plumbing, doors and hardware, and casework/cabinets Comfortable being the point of accountability for a job site with minimal oversight from ownership Strong organizational skills tracking schedule, materials, and crew performance simultaneously Strong understanding of OSHA and applicable construction safety regulations Excellent communication skills for crew supervision, client updates, and contractor coordination Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Preferred Experience Hospital or healthcare facility tenant improvement experience - OSHPD / HCAI experience is a plus Experience with commercial TI projects specifically (vs. residential only) NorCal Builders was established in May of 2005 as a residential general contractor. In 2007, we branched out into commercial tenant improvement and haven't looked back since. The approach to tenant improvement is simple: we design your space to accommodate your needs. We also project manage to ensure minimal workflow interruption. After years spent in the commercial industry, we have recognized the necessity and benefit of having a reliable company. Especially one unlike any other who service most (if not all) of your needs. Tracking multiple vendors for a single project can be a nightmare. Thats why we make sure you can step back and relax while we handle everything for you.
Pay:
$45.00 - $55.00 per hour
