The Lead Repairman's primary responsibility is to ensure all asphalt plant equipment, support systems, and infrastructure remain in safe and optimum operating condition. This position combines advanced mechanical expertise with responsibilities, overseeing daily maintenance activities, coordinating repairs, troubleshooting plant issues, and communicating operational needs directly to management. This role requires a highly skilled individual with extensive knowledge of plant equipment, rotating components, bearings, and their applications, welding/fabrication, and preventative maintenance practices. The Lead Repairman is expected to lead by example, maintain high safety standards, and provide weekly reporting on completed work, ongoing repairs, and upcoming maintenance needs. Essential Functions Coordinate the daily activities with the repair manager through scheduled maintenance, breakdown repairs, and plant improvement projects. Diagnoses and troubleshoot mechanical failures involving asphalt plant equipment, conveyors, drum mixers, batch plants, motors, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulic systems, and pneumatic systems. Perform and oversee repairs involving welding, torch work, fabrication, aggregate bin relining, equipment alignment, and rotating assemblies. Develop and execute preventative maintenance plans to minimize downtime and maximize equipment reliability. Maintain a strong understanding of industrial bearings, bearing failures, lubrication requirements, shaft applications, and proper installation procedures. Communicate directly with supervisors regarding equipment conditions, repair priorities, critical parts needed, and anticipated downtime requirements. Provide weekly reporting outlining completed repairs, pending repairs, plant concerns, and upcoming maintenance tasks. Coordinate with contractors and service providers during specialized repairs or shutdown projects while ensuring work quality and safety compliance. Mentor maintenance personnel on safe work practices, repair procedures, equipment operation, and troubleshooting techniques. Ensure all work is completed in accordance with OSHA standards, company policies, and plant safety procedures. Promote a positive, productive, and accountable team environment focused on safety, reliability, and operational excellence. Skills & Knowledge Extensive experience in asphalt/aggregate plant maintenance and industrial mechanical repair. Advanced knowledge of bearings, rotating equipment, shaft alignment, conveyors, motors, reducers, pulleys, sprockets, and plant drive systems. Expert-level welding, cutting, and fabrication skills. Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities in high-pressure operational environments. Proven leadership skills with the ability to organize crews, prioritize repairs, and adjust plans quickly during plant breakdowns. Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to provide detailed reporting to supervisors and management. Experience coordinating maintenance projects and working alongside contractors and vendors. Ability to operate forklifts, manlifts, loaders, and other support equipment safely and effectively. Requirements Minimum 5+ years of experience in asphalt plant maintenance or heavy industrial mechanical repair preferred. Must possess a valid Class C driver's license. Acceptable driving record with no reckless driving offenses, DUI convictions, or major violations. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accountability and professionalism. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and complete assigned tasks within scheduled timelines. Must be dependable, punctual, safety-oriented, and capable of leading by example.
