Job Description Job Description Job Description A Day in the Life on Our Underground Team It's sunrise in Austin, TX. You review the day's plan, confirm TBMs, and walk the site with your crew. Survey gear is set, grades are checked, and the first trench line is marked. By mid-morning, conduit is in, ground boxes are placed to spec, and the concrete crew is forming up. You're coordinating with the inspector, adjusting to field realities, and keeping production on pace-all while leading a safety-first culture. Your Typical Day Validate layout using TxDOT/City of Austin plans; verify survey control and grades for accuracy. Direct trenching, potholing, conduit installation, and ground box settings; oversee concrete pours and finish quality. Operate or supervise saws, tampers, and excavation equipment; keep equipment maintained and operated safely. Run daily safety briefings and pre-task hazard analyses; ensure OSHA, trench, confined space, and traffic control compliance. Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, vendors, and subs to resolve field issues and maintain quality. Manage materials, deliveries, tools, and equipment assignments to keep work flowing. Capture labor and production in HCSS on an iPad; complete timecards, material logs, haul tickets, and daily reports. Coach Laborers, Operators, and Leadmen; build capability and readiness for future leadership. Lead incident reporting/investigations and collaborate with Safety on corrective actions and risk reduction. Attend D10 meetings; support the Superintendent with planning, scheduling, and documentation audits. Handle layout, schedule, or quality conflicts professionally with PMs, inspectors, and clients. Step into traffic control/flagging as needed to safeguard crews and the public. What Makes You Successful 5+ years in underground utilities with prior leadership responsibilities. Deep knowledge of underground electrical work, concrete, trench safety, and traffic control. Ability to interpret civil/electrical drawings and specs; familiarity with TxDOT, OSHA, MUTCD. Experience with digital timekeeping/production software (HCSS preferred). Clear communicator and motivator; bilingual English/Spanish is helpful. Valid driver's license and insurable status. OSHA 10 required; OSHA 30, Competent Person (Excavation), and Confined Space preferred. Reward for Joining Eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus. Taxes apply. Physical Realities of the Role Work outdoors year-round in heat, cold, rain, and other conditions. Regularly stand, bend, kneel, and perform strenuous tasks for extended periods. Lift/carry up to 50 lbs. routinely and up to 100 lbs. with help. Work amid dust, noise, vibration, moving equipment, open trenches, and live traffic-situational awareness is essential.
