  • Commodity Repair Operations is responsible for leading and coordinating daily commodity-level repair operations within the server repair cage, with primary responsibility for motherboards, DIMMs, HDDs, and SSDs.

This position provides direct supervision of repair technicians and ensures that repair activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established quality, workmanship, ESD, traceability, security, and customer requirements. The Repair Supervisor manages repair work-in-process (WIP), aging, turnaround time (TAT), repair yield, and return-to-test performance. The position also leads failure-analysis activities, identifies recurring defects, supports root-cause analysis, and communicates findings to Testing, Engineering, Quality, and suppliers to improve overall product and repair performance. The role requires strong technical knowledge of board-level repair and rework, including BGA/SMT processes, IPC workmanship standards, component-level diagnosis, and ESD controls. The position also ensures secure handling and traceability of customer-owned storage media in accordance with applicable customer and data-center security requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Repair Quality & Workmanship

  • Ensure repair and rework activities comply with applicable IPC workmanship requirements and company procedures.
  • Oversee board-level repair, soldering, BGA/SMT rework, component replacement, and verification activities.
  • Review and interpret AOI results and ensure appropriate follow-up on identified defects.
  • Verify completed repairs before components are returned to testing or production.
  • Establish controls to prevent repeat failures, workmanship defects, and quality escapes.
  • Monitor repair yield and identify opportunities for quality improvement.
  • Ensure technicians follow approved repair procedures, standard work, and applicable engineering specifications. Repair Operations Management
  • Lead daily commodity repair operations for server motherboards, DIMMs, HDDs, SSDs, and other assigned components.
  • Establish and maintain an efficient repair-floor layout and workflow to support standard and expedited repair processes.
  • Monitor repair WIP, aging, throughput, and TAT against established return-to-test targets.
  • Prioritize repair activities based on material criticality, rack-down conditions, production requirements, and customer priorities.
  • Coordinate repair workload and priorities with the Testing Supervisor and other operational stakeholders.
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective actions to maintain continuous repair flow.

Failure Analysis & Continuous Improvement Lead failure-analysis activities for recurring commodity-level defects. Develop and maintain defect Pareto analysis by commodity, defect code, failure mode, and other applicable categories. Monitor and reduce No Trouble Found (NTF) rates. Identify recurring failure patterns and coordinate root-cause investigations. Provide repair and failure-analysis feedback to Testing, Engineering, Quality, and suppliers. Support corrective and preventive actions related to recurring repair failures. Drive Kaizen, standard-work improvements, and process optimization within repair operations. Materials, Traceability & Disposition Maintain complete and accurate repair traceability throughout the repair process. Ensure defect codes and repair history are accurately recorded in applicable systems. Maintain part-level serial-number tracking for repaired, quarantined, returned, and scrapped materials. Control repair WIP, defective materials, and quarantined components. Coordinate MRB activities and ensure materials are properly identified and controlled. Support repair-versus-scrap-versus-RTV disposition decisions in accordance with customer and company requirements. Ensure scrap materials are properly documented, controlled, and certified when required. Maintain accurate records to support customer audits, quality investigations, and internal reporting. Customer Media Security & Chain of Custody Enforce secure handling requirements for customer HDDs, SSDs, and other storage media. Ensure applicable media sanitization procedures are followed before disposition, repair, return, or reuse. Maintain documented chain of custody for customer-owned storage devices. Ensure customer media is properly secured, tracked, and controlled throughout the repair process. Follow applicable hyperscale and data-center customer security requirements. Escalate any suspected security, traceability, or chain-of-custody violation immediately. ESD, Safety & Workplace Compliance Own and maintain ESD controls within the repair operation. Conduct or coordinate periodic ESD audits and ensure corrective actions are completed. Ensure technicians use appropriate ESD protection and follow established ESD procedures. Enforce safe handling of soldering equipment, chemicals, cleaning materials, and other repair-related substances. Ensure appropriate solder-fume extraction and ventilation controls are maintained. Maintain 5S standards and a clean, organized, and hazard-free repair environment. Promote a strong safety culture and immediately address unsafe conditions or behaviors. Ensure employees receive required safety, ESD, and operational training. Team Leadership & Workforce Management Supervise, coach, and develop repair technicians and assigned personnel. Assign daily responsibilities based on workload, technician capability, production priorities, and business requirements. Manage shift schedules, staffing coverage, overtime, and workload distribution. Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, workmanship, and adherence to procedures. Provide technical guidance and coaching to technicians. Identify training needs and coordinate appropriate technical or compliance training. Promote teamwork, accountability, continuous improvement, and adherence to company standards. Testing & Cross-Functional Coordination Coordinate closely with the Testing Supervisor regarding rack-down priorities and express rework requirements. Communicate repair status, WIP aging, critical shortages, and expected completion times. Support the efficient flow of repaired materials back to testing. Collaborate with Testing, Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials, and Supply Chain teams to resolve repair-related issues. Escalate critical failures, capacity constraints, customer-impacting issues, and recurring defects appropriately. Provide technical input during cross-functional problem-solving activities. Reporting & Performance Management Prepare and maintain repair performance reports covering TAT, WIP, aging, yield, productivity, NTF, and defect trends. Monitor departmental KPIs and identify performance gaps. Provide regular status updates to the Testing Department Manager. Maintain accurate operational and quality records. Use Excel, PowerPoint, repair tracking systems, MES, and other applicable tools to analyze and communicate performance. Support management reviews and customer reporting as required.

Required Qualifications & Competencies Basic Qualifications Education:

Required Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree required in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field. 3-5 years of experience in electronics repair, rework, manufacturing, or related technical operations. 1-2 years of supervisory or team-lead experience managing repair technicians or technical personnel. Required board-level L5/L6 repair experience. Demonstrated experience with component-level diagnosis and repair of server motherboards. Hands-on knowledge of BGA/SMT rework, soldering, component replacement, and board-level troubleshooting . Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and IPC-7711/7721 or equivalent industry workmanship/rework standards. Experience implementing or managing ESD controls within an electronics manufacturing or repair environment. Experience with commodity-level failure analysis involving motherboards, DIMMs, HDDs, and SSDs . Experience making or supporting repair, scrap, RTV, quarantine, and MRB disposition decisions. Experience managing repair WIP, aging, throughput, and TAT against operational targets. Experience with defect coding, repair-history documentation, serial-number tracking, and traceability systems. Experience developing or using defect Pareto analysis and supporting root-cause investigations. Familiarity with media sanitization, secure storage, and chain-of-custody requirements for customer drives. Experience working with hyperscale, cloud, or data-center customers is preferred. Familiarity with customer-specific repair, scrap, and authorization requirements is preferred. Communication & Leadership Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency is required. Ability to deliver safety training and communicate safety requirements effectively in both languages. Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with production employees, supervisors, engineers, and management. Ability to address safety concerns professionally and consistently. Demonstrated ownership, accountability, attention to detail, and willingness to work proactively.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods. Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Ability to travel between office, warehouse, and manufacturing areas as needed. May occasionally work outside normal business hours during system upgrades, maintenance windows, or production support activities.
