JOB SUMMARY
The City of San Augustine is seeking an Electrical Foreman to supervise and coordinate a team of linemen and ensure the successful completion of electrical projects within the City. This position requires a commitment to safety, the ability to complete projects within budget while delivering timely results, and the ability to lead a team of linemen to coordinate activities around San Augustine.
BASIC FUNCTION
Under the general supervision of the Electrical Superintendent, the Electrical Foreman leads and monitors a lineman crew, assigning daily tasks and ensuring operational efficiency. The Foreman strictly enforces OSHA and City safety protocols, conducting regularly scheduled safety briefings and facilitating training sessions as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of electricians.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards and procedures.
  • Monitor the progress of projects to ensure they remain on schedule and within budget.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems and diagnose issues.
  • Closely communicate with the Utility Billing Department for dispatching and deploying to site locations when issues arise.
  • Train and mentor electricians in safety protocols and job skills.
  • Ensure all materials and equipment are available for projects.
  • Monitor the work of electricians to ensure quality of work meets City Standards.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Electrical Superintendent.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will supervise a team of Lineman, daily.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
The Electrical Foreman must have a Journeyman license/certification and be skilled in power distribution, lighting systems, low voltage systems, and equipment installation. A deep understanding of OSHA safety standards and procedures and knowledge of electrical materials and the ability to estimate project costs and labor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • CDL Class A driver's license.
  • 5+ years in electrical installation and wiring.
  • Ability to manage a crew, train, mentor, and motivate electricians.
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and regulations.
  • Able to interpret wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work in inclement weather.
  • Able to lift over 60 pounds, climb ladders, and work in awkward positions for extended periods.
OPERATIONAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Due to the high-risk nature of high-voltage work, the Foreman is responsible for wearing and enforcing the use of specialized Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including fire-resistant clothing, safety glasses, non-conductive footwear, hard hats, and high-voltage rubber gloves. This role requires regular operation of company vehicles in accordance with road safety guidelines and participation in an on-call rotation—including nights, weekends, and holidays—to perform emergency electrical system repairs. The employee must be able to perform these duties in inclement weather conditions, provided they are not life-threatening.
