Job Description
A Grade Crew Laborer works with a grading crew to prepare construction sites for roads, bridges, utilities, and other heavy civil projects. The position supports equipment operators by performing manual labor, checking grades, and ensuring the site is ready for construction activities. Typical Duties & Responsibilities Assist equipment operators with site grading and earthwork activities.
Perform hand grading using shovels, rakes, and other hand tools.
Set and remove grade stakes, string lines, and markers.
Check grades using laser levels, grade rods, and measuring tapes.
Load, unload, and distribute construction materials and equipment.
Dig trenches and assist with utility installation as directed.
Compact soil using hand-operated compactors.
Maintain a clean and safe work area.
Direct equipment operators using hand signals when necessary.
Perform daily maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
Follow all company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and PPE requirements.
Perform other duties assigned by the Foreman or Superintendent. Qualifications Previous grading or heavy civil construction experience preferred but not required.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team.
Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends as needed.
OSHA 10 certification is a plus.
Frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and lifting.
Ability to work around heavy equipment and moving machinery.
Ability to work in hot, humid, dusty, and noisy environments.
