Located along the Space Coast in Melbourne, Florida, the Brevard Zoo is an AZA-accredited facility with a diverse collection of over 900 animals representing nearly 200 species. It is also home to the Sea Turtle Healing Center for rehabilitation of wild marine turtles. Brevard Zoo is well-known for its strong conservation ethic and unique attractions, such as kayaking through the Africa area, giraffe feeding, and rhinoceros and various other animal encounters. Perform day to day activities with construction staff related to daily operations with direction from construction lead. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Knowledge of and a working history in construction. Valid driver's license. PREFERRED/DESIRED
Experience working at a zoological park or related industry preferred. Prior facilities construction experience preferred. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform general entry level construction duties including but not limited to site work demolition, carpentry, basic plumbing, concrete, welding, and general maintenance and repair. Operate hand tools, small power tools and related safety equipment. Follow written and verbal instructions. Work well with zoo staff, peers, and supervisors. Performs other zoo construction and maintenance duties. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working Knowledge of construction related tools and equipment. Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail. Upholds safety standards for job sites, staff and outside contractors. Highly responsible and reliable. An equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
(H) Heavy Work Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. POTENTIAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS/HAZARDS
Must be willing to work in inclement weather including temperatures exceeding 100 degrees and high humidity. Frequent movement outdoors with some indoor office environment. Exposure to extreme heat and weather conditions. Requires Sitting, Standing, Walking, Bending, Stooping, Kneeling, Finger Dexterity, Talking, Hearing, and Visual Acuity frequently. WORK SCHEDULE
