•This is NOT a direct hire position. Position Summary We are seeking dependable, hardworking OSP Fiber Construction Laborers to support underground broadband and fiber-optic construction projects for our client. This is a hands-on field position working alongside Directional Drill Operators, Locators, Equipment Operators, and Construction Supervisors to install underground conduit, microduct, handholes, and other infrastructure supporting fiber-optic networks. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, reliable, comfortable working outdoors, and willing to perform physically demanding construction work. Previous telecommunications, utility, underground construction, or fiber experience is preferred, but candidates with strong construction backgrounds and a willingness to learn will also be considered. Key Responsibilities Assist HDD operators, locators, and construction crews with underground fiber construction activities. Assist with installation of conduit, microduct, fiber pathways, handholes, vaults, and related OSP infrastructure. Dig and prepare bore pits, trenches, potholes, and other excavation areas as required. Pothole and expose existing utilities safely prior to drilling or excavation. Assist with pulling, placing, and handling conduit and fiber-optic cable. Load, unload, stage, and organize conduit, microduct, tools, equipment, and construction materials. Assist with setting up and breaking down HDD equipment and construction work areas. Use hand and power tools including shovels, picks, tampers, saws, drills, and other construction equipment. Assist operators with equipment spotting and movement around active construction sites. Perform basic site preparation, backfilling, compaction, cleanup, and restoration. Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe job site. Set up cones, signs, barricades, and other traffic-control equipment as directed. Follow utility markings and safe-digging procedures when working around existing underground infrastructure. Perform daily equipment and material checks as directed by the crew lead or supervisor. Follow all OSHA requirements, company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and project-specific construction standards. Communicate effectively with crew members, supervisors, and other personnel on the job site. Perform additional construction-related duties as assigned. Qualifications Previous experience in OSP construction, fiber construction, telecommunications, utilities, excavation, landscaping, civil construction, or general construction preferred. Underground fiber or HDD construction experience is a plus. Experience working around directional drilling, trenching, excavation, or underground utilities is highly desirable. Ability to safely use basic hand and power tools. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a construction crew. Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and job-site conditions. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, dig, and perform repetitive physical work throughout the workday. Ability to regularly lift and carry construction materials and equipment weighing approximately 50+ lbs. Valid driver's license preferred. CDL is a plus but not required. OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, or other construction safety certifications are a plus. Must be able to comply with applicable background, drug-screening, and project requirements. Employees may work around excavation equipment, directional drills, construction vehicles, underground utilities, active roadways, and other construction hazards. Work may include extended hours and overtime depending on project schedules, production requirements, weather, and customer needs.
