This is a semi-skilled level of utility maintenance and janitorial work performed in and around the Water Division facilities. Work involves the performance of manual labor and various tasks related to the maintenance, cleaning, and repairs of facilities. Assignments are performed in accordance with established procedures under general supervision. Specific instructions are received on new work assignments or special cleaning/maintenance problems. Work is normally subject to inspection upon completion for compliance with instructions. This list may not include all tasks and/or knowledge which may be expected of the employee, nor does it cover all specific duties which may be required. Janitorial duties in the Water Division facilities. Landscaping, snow and ice removal, sidewalk cleaning and other related tasks at Water Division facilities. Truck and equipment operation for transporting workers, tools, and materials. Room setup, tear down and cleanup for meetings. Pickup and deliver mail; move books and furniture as required. Inspect, maintain and repair building related equipment. Painting Water Division facilities and equipment including the operation of relevant equipment and tools. Performs related work including work in positions classified above and below this position as required. Update and maintain accurate data for maintenance projects and inspections that have been completed in eMaint (Cmms software data base). Create work orders in eMaint for maintenance staff for building and grounds repairs that need addressed.
Education/Experience:
Graduation from high school or vocational/technical school; experience with facilities maintenance / Custodial or any equivalent combination of training and experience to provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills.

Experience in carpentry, plumbing, general construction, and other maintenance and repair procedures. Materials, methods, tools, and equipment used in repairing and maintenance. Occupational hazards involved and of the safety precautions necessary in the performance of assigned work. Cleaning materials, methods and equipment used in janitorial work.
Skill in:
Operation of a truck, and in the use of hand and powertools. Transferring technical knowledge to operational activity to achieve desired results. Using tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
Ability to:
Follow oral and written instructions, read blueprints, prepare limited work records. Perform work independently under limited supervision. Ensure that proper on-the-job safety procedure's are followed, and safety equipment is properly and consistently used. Read and understand technical information and apply guidelines and regulations to operational situations. Communicate clearly, courteously, and professionally with the public and all City employees, sometimes in difficult or stressful situations. Communicate clearly, courteously, and professionally orally and in writing. Understand and follow general oral and written instructions. Work evenings, nights and weekends as required and respond to emergency situations. Safely use and maintain general and specialized tools, manual and power maintenance tools, and light automotive equipment. Correctly perform basic arithmetic. Correctly take, record and use measurements. Use a computer as related to the responsibilities of this position including internet searches, email and position specific software.
Certificates and Licenses:
Possession and maintenance of a Valid Illinois Driver's License.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Work requires:
Traveling to Water Division sites and the ability to walk/work in variety of natural and altered ground surfaces which maybe uneven, wet or slippery or sloped. Visual ability and manual dexterity to use a computer and safely operate small tools including motorized tools. Ability to sit at a computer station and within vehicles sometimes for extended periods. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Ability to enter, exit and safely operate motorized equipment. Availability for occasiona out-of-town travel to attend required training.
