Job Title:
Underground Utility Laborer Company Overview M&M Underground is a leading underground utility contractor specializing in directional boring and installation of water, sewer, electric, and communication lines in Indiana. Our team prides itself on safety, efficiency, and high-quality workmanship in every project we complete. Position Summary The Underground Utility Laborer assists in the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground utilities, including water, sewer, electrical, and telecommunications systems. This role involves supporting operators and foremen in day-to-day operations at construction sites and ensuring all work is performed safely and efficiently. Key Responsibilities Assist crews with the setup and operation of directional drills, excavators, and vacuum systems. Locate and expose existing utilities safely using hand tools or hydro-excavation. Install conduit, pipe, and cable according to project specifications and blueprints. Backfill trenches, restore work areas, and maintain a clean and organized job site. Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment as needed. Support operators with drill rod handling, mixing drilling fluid, and setting up bore paths. Ensure adherence to company safety policies and OSHA standards. Communicate effectively with crew members, foremen, and supervisors. Qualifications Prior experience in underground utilities, construction, or directional drilling preferred. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding labor. Valid driver's license (CDL is a plus). Basic understanding of trench safety, traffic control, and utility locating. Reliable, punctual, and able to follow directions and work as part of a team. Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50+ pounds, bend, kneel, and stand for extended periods. Comfortable working around heavy equipment and in confined spaces.
