Salvage Yard Laborer

Position Summary We are seeking a dependable and hardworking Scrap Yard Laborer to assist with the daily operations of our metal recycling facility. This role is primarily outdoors and involves processing, sorting, and preparing scrap metal for resale. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in all weather conditions, operating equipment, and maintaining a safe, organized yard. Key Responsibilities Sort, separate, and process ferrous and non-ferrous metals for resale Identify different grades of scrap materials (copper, aluminum, steel, etc.) Operate equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, torches, and basic hand tools Cut, dismantle, and prepare scrap materials for transport or sale Assist with loading and unloading customer and company vehicles Maintain a clean, organized, and safe yard environment Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times Direct and assist customers in unloading materials when needed Monitor materials for prohibited or hazardous items Work Environment Outdoor work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow) Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy equipment Physically demanding role requiring standing, lifting, bending, and climbing Qualifications Prior experience in a scrap yard, construction, demolition, or similar labor-intensive environment preferred, but not required. Ability to lift 50+ lbs consistently Basic knowledge of metal types and grading is a plus (will train the right candidate) Strong work ethic and reliability Ability to follow directions and work independently or as part of a team Compensation & Schedule Full-time position Competitive hourly pay based on experience Overtime opportunities may be available

Pay:

$14.00 - $16.00 per hour
