A Construction Helper or Worker works at construction sites and projects. Works as a skilled trades worker such as bricklayer, carpenter, painter, electrician or mason, or operates construction equipment.
The Laborer performs general construction and manual labor duties in support of paving, excavation, site preparation, drainage, utility, and other construction projects performed by Crider Paving and Excavating LLC. This position requires dependable attendance, the ability to perform physically demanding work, and a strong commitment to workplace and jobsite safety. The Laborer will work as part of a construction crew and is expected to follow directions from supervisors, properly use tools and equipment, maintain a clean and safe work area, and assist equipment operators and other crew members as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to: Perform general labor duties associated with excavation, paving, grading, site preparation, and construction projects. Assist with digging, trenching, backfilling, grading, and compacting soil, rock, gravel, and other materials. Assist with asphalt paving and roadway or parking lot construction. Shovel, rake, spread, level, and compact asphalt, gravel, dirt, and other construction materials. Assist equipment operators by spotting, signaling, checking clearances, and maintaining safe working areas. Install or assist with installation of drainage pipe, culverts, stormwater components, and related materials. Assist with concrete work, including preparation, placement, finishing support, and cleanup as directed. Load, unload, move, and organize construction materials, tools, equipment, and supplies. Operate hand tools and power tools safely and properly. Operate compactors, saws, pumps, and other small construction equipment when trained and authorized. Perform jobsite cleanup and remove debris and unused materials. Assist with traffic control, barricades, cones, signs, and other jobsite safety measures when required. Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment. Inspect tools and equipment before use and immediately report damaged or unsafe equipment. Follow established grades, markings, stakes, and instructions provided by supervisors. Work around excavators, skid steers, loaders, dump trucks, rollers, pavers, and other heavy construction equipment. Follow instructions from the Foreman, Superintendent, equipment operators, and management. Perform other construction-related duties as assigned.

Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and jobsite requirements. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses, work boots, gloves, hearing protection, and other PPE as required. Remain aware of moving vehicles and heavy equipment at all times. Never enter trenches, excavations, restricted areas, or equipment operating zones unless authorized and safe to do so. Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, property damage, and near-miss incidents to a supervisor. Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training. Follow all applicable OSHA requirements and project-specific safety rules. Never operate equipment or machinery unless properly trained and authorized. Report to work fit for duty and capable of safely performing assigned responsibilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The employee must be able to: Perform physically demanding work for extended periods. Frequently stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, and lift. Regularly lift and carry construction materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to approximately 50 pounds and heavier items with assistance. Work on uneven terrain, slopes, dirt, gravel, asphalt, mud, and active construction sites. Safely enter and exit trucks and construction equipment when required. Perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is primarily performed outdoors and may require working in: Hot and cold temperatures. Rain, wind, dust, mud, and other weather conditions. Noisy environments. Areas containing construction dust, dirt, asphalt, concrete, and other materials. Active jobsites with moving vehicles and heavy equipment. Early mornings, extended shifts, overtime, and weekends depending on project schedules and weather conditions. Work schedules may vary based on workload, weather, project requirements, and customer needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions. Ability to work effectively as part of a construction crew. Dependable attendance and reliable transportation to the designated reporting location or jobsite. Ability to perform the physical requirements of the position. Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to follow company and jobsite safety requirements. Construction, paving, excavation, or general labor experience is preferred but not required. Valid driver's license is preferred. Must be willing to complete required company and jobsite safety training.
