Starting Salary :

$35,360 PRIMARY ROLE The Laborer III is a key member of the Gas Department responsible for supporting the maintenance, repair, and installation of the City's gas distribution system. This position performs manual labor, assists with field operations, and helps ensure safe and efficient service to the community. Duties include digging, pipe prep, and site restoration under direct supervision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

Infrastructure Repair:

Assist with excavation, repair of gas leaks, and installation of new gas taps.

Facility Maintenance:

Perform groundskeeping around distribution stations and restore work sites after repairs are completed.

Equipment Handling:

Load, unload, and transport pipes, fittings, and tools for daily field assignments.

Safety:

Set up traffic control devices and monitor job sites for safety hazards and abnormal operating conditions.

Emergency Response:

May be required to respond to emergency callouts and perform required maintenance and repairs.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Entry-level; up to one (1) year of related experience preferred.
• Valid Driver's License.
• Must be able to successfully pass a background check and DOT drug screen, in accordance with federal regulations.

• Ability to safely operate standard equipment required for the position.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a team or work crew.
• Ability to interact professionally with the public as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work Setting:

Performance of duties is primarily outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, rain, and cold). Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and chemicals.

Physical Effort:

Ability to perform strenuous physical activities for extended periods, including bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and reaching. Must be able to frequently lift and carry tools, equipment, or materials weighing up to 50 lbs., and occasionally more with assistance.
