The Surveyor is responsible for performing daily surveying activities in support of heavy civil construction projects. This role focuses on accurate data collection, layout, verification, and documentation to ensure construction activities align with project plans, specifications, and control. The Surveyor works closely with project teams to support safe, efficient, and accurate project execution in the field. This position is hands‑on and field‑based.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate survey operations across highway, municipal, and heavy construction projects Manage survey planning, scheduling, budgets, and field production Coordinate daily survey needs with superintendents, forepersons, and engineers Operate surveying equipment such as GPS, total stations, and data collectors Maintain accurate survey notes, files, and electronic records Ensure survey deliverables meet client and QA/QC standards Perform construction surveying tasks including layout, grade checking, quantity verification, and as‑built data collection
Qualifications:
Experience in construction surveying (highway/heavy civil strongly preferred) Strong proficiency with GPS, total stations, and data collection workflows Ability to lead crews, manage projects, and make technical decisions independently Valid driver's license and ability to work outdoors in all conditions
Preferred Qualifications:
3-7+ years field experience leading crews for our Crew Chief role 5+ years progressive experience + licensure for our Project Surveyor role Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) - Minnesota (or ability to obtain) LSIT or CST certification Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field The hourly rate for this role will be $35-47 depending on experience. PE Services offers a dynamic work environment and a competitive compensation and benefits package.
