Job Description

Responsibility for providing skilled to semi-skilled activities in the maintenance and construction of parks, buildings, facilities and other landscaped areas. Work responsibilities may extend to special work assignments and playground construction projects. Work is performed under the general direction of the Parks Manager or other supervisory employee.
Work is typically performed:
12 pm
  • 8 pm, Friday Monday and Tuesday. 7 am
  • 1 pm. and 6 pm
  • 8 pm Saturday and Sunday .
Facility Operations Open, close, inspect, and clean public restrooms and park facilities, including Wadsworth Park and the Park & Recreation office. Check doors, windows, and other access points to ensure facility security. Restock restroom and cleaning supplies. Set up or move tables, chairs, equipment, and supplies as needed. Custodial Duties Perform general custodial cleaning, including floors, windows, walls, and other assigned areas. Assist the full-time custodian with cleaning, maintenance, and special projects. Complete minor building maintenance and basic repair tasks when assigned. Remove graffiti and clean up vandalism. Outdoor Maintenance Collect park and facility garbage using City vehicles. Perform outdoor park and grounds cleanup as needed. Conduct snow and ice removal, and shovel sidewalks, entrances, and other pedestrian areas during winter weather. Equipment & Physical Requirements Operate City vehicles and custodial or grounds-maintenance equipment. Work indoors and outdoors in varying and harsh winter conditions. Lift and carry materials weighing up to approximately 50 pounds. Other Duties Perform other related Park & Recreation maintenance duties as assigned. High School diploma or equivalent. One year of experience in parks, building and grounds maintenance desired.
NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Candidate must be at least 18 years old. Candidate must possess or have the ability to obtain valid Montana driver's license. Working knowledge of landscaping and grounds keeping. Working knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides. Ability to follow oral and written instructions efficiently and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the general public. Working knowledge of methods and equipment used in building cleaning and maintenance.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
This position does not supervise staff.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions and is exposed to cold, heat, noise, dust, vibration, chemicals, and mechanical hazards.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, reach, ride and perform similar body movements. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Possess hand/eye coordination sufficient to operate maintenance equipment, hand and power tools, and a motor vehicle; the ability to talk and hear in person or by telephone or two way radio; and the ability to see and read instructions and reports.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
The work schedule is a 40-hour work week, Sunday through Saturday.
Work is typically performed:
12 pm
  • 8 pm, Friday Monday and Tuesday. 7 am
  • 1 pm. and 6 pm
  • 8 pm Saturday and Sunday .
Weekend start times may vary depending on snow removal. This position is non-exempt and eligible for overtime. Any overtime must be authorized prior to working. The position may be up to a six-month position . TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day. Occasional travel may be required to attend off-site training and educational opportunities.
