Job Description The Grounds Laborer is responsible for maintaining the appearance, safety, and functionality of the grounds and exterior areas throughout Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point (MOTSU). This position performs routine landscaping, vegetation management, debris removal, and general grounds maintenance to support daily operations of the installation. During periods when grounds maintenance is limited, the Grounds Laborer will assist other departments with general labor, facility maintenance, moving materials, and other operational tasks assigned. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Cut grass, using walking type or riding mowers (less than 2,000 lbs) Trim hedges and edges around walks, flowerbeds and wells, using hedge trimmer, clippers and edging tools Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears and other hand tools Plant grass, flowers, trees and shrubs Water lawn and shrubs during dry periods, using hose or activating sprinkler systems. Pick up and/or cart away leaves, paper or other litter Repair and paint fences, gates, benches, tables, guardrails and outbuildings Assist in repair of roads, walks, buildings May clean comfort stations, offices, workshop areas and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping and polishing Perform routine maintenance and repairs on administrative buildings, warehouses, maintenance facilities, and other terminal structures. Conduct preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment. Repair doors, locks, windows, fencing, lighting, and building fixtures. Maintain roadways, sidewalks, drainage systems, and exterior grounds. Operate hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, forklifts, and other maintenance equipment as authorized. Maintain accurate records of completed work and materials used. Ensure work areas remain clean, organized, and compliant with OSHA, environmental, and DoD safety standards. Support facility improvement projects and assist skilled trades personnel as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills Must be at least 18 years of age. Will be subject to a pre-employment criminal background and DMV check. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen. Regularly work outdoors in inclement weather including rain, snow, heat and cold. Consistent attendance and reliability required. Ability to effectively read, write, and speak English. Must have the ability to work independently and within established guidelines, follow directions, and work well with others. Experience Requirements One (1) year or more of general grounds maintenance, construction, facilities maintenance, or related experience. Required Licenses or Certifications High school diploma or equivalent Must possess a valid/current state issued driver's license Monday-Friday
