General Laborer Civil Excavation & Site Work | BC Excavating | Rockbridge, OH — $24.00 - $28.00/hr + OT | Travel Required
POSITION SUMMARY BC
Excavating is hiring General Laborers to support civil excavation crews on substation and site work projects across Ohio, Indiana, and West Virginia. You will work directly alongside heavy equipment operators and crew foremen loading, trenching, laying pipe, managing materials, and doing whatever the job needs to stay on schedule and on spec. This is hard work in the field. If you show up ready, take direction well, and want to grow, we'll put you in a position to advance.

We specialize in earthmoving, underground utilities, land clearing, and grading delivering quality site work for residential, commercial, and municipal projects across Central Ohio. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
Showing up on time, ready to work, every single day reliability is non-negotiable in a field environment. Supporting operators and foremen with ground tasks, spouting, pipe handling, and job-site logistics without being told twice. Completing DTHA forms and participating in daily job briefings as part of the morning crew huddle. Keeping the site clean, materials organized, and equipment serviced as directed by the foreman. Demonstrating coachability and a desire to learn laborers who show up and work hard get opportunities to operate equipment over time.
OBJECTIVES
Support heavy equipment operators with ground tasks including spouting, pipe handling, load management, and trench support across active job sites. Participate in daily job briefings (7-8 AM), complete DTHA documentation, and adhere to all site safety requirements and PPE standards. Maintain organized, clean, and safe work areas around active machinery and excavation zones. Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of materials, tools, and supplies as directed by the site foreman. Demonstrate consistent attendance, punctuality, and a willingness to labor in varying conditions across multi-state project sites.
REQUIREMENTS
Required:
Physical ability to perform sustained manual labor — lifting up to 60 lbs, bending, digging, and working in trenches and slopes Reliable transportation to meet on-site at assigned project locations Willingness to travel across OH, IN, and WV for project work (overnight stays, per diem provided) Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to take direction from a foreman without friction
Preferred:
Prior construction, excavation, utility, or site work experience Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and job-site safety practices OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain Interest in developing into an equipment operator over time
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Pay Rate $24.00-$28.00/hr| Overtime common (40+ hrs/week typical) Schedule Monday-Thursday | 4×10-hour days | Overtime as required by project Health Insurance 65% of premium covered | Effective after 90 days 401(k) Company match | 100% vested after 5 years Per Diem $115-$140/day based on distance zone from Rockbridge, OH PTO 1 week paid vacation after 1 year Work Location Meet on job site | Travel required
