Public Works Laborer Seasonal Homestead Borough Homestead, PA Job Details Temporary | Part-time $15.10 an hour 22 hours ago Qualifications Outdoor work Construction painting Writing skills Moving High school diploma or GED Driver's License Hand tools Full Job Description Introduction The Part-Time Laborer is an at-will employee appointed by the Homestead Borough Council and works under the direct supervision of the Public Works Foreman. This position performs a variety of manual labor and maintenance assignments in support of the Borough's public works operations. Work schedules may vary based on operational needs, seasonal demands, emergencies, and special projects. At this time, the Borough of Homestead is hiring one (1) Part-Time Laborer to assist with seasonal duties. Compensation and Work Schedule The hourly wage for the Part-Time Laborer position shall be $15.10 per hour for calendar year 2026. Part-Time Laborers shall be scheduled to work no more than thirty-two (32) hours per week, based on the operational needs of the Department of Public Works. The normal work schedule is 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.; however, work hours may be adjusted by the Borough to meet operational, seasonal, or emergency needs. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Performs a variety of manual labor assignments as directed by the Public Works Foreman or Borough Manager. Performs or assists in general maintenance, cleaning, painting, custodial work, street maintenance and repair, park maintenance, grounds maintenance, building maintenance, storm sewer maintenance, and sanitary sewer maintenance. Operates and performs routine operator-level maintenance on Borough vehicles, equipment, and tools. Assists with snow and ice removal, leaf collection, storm cleanup, emergency response, and other seasonal Public Works activities as assigned. Loads, unloads, lifts, and transports equipment, materials, and supplies. Maintains a safe and clean work environment and follows all Borough safety policies and procedures. Reports equipment malfunctions or unsafe conditions to the Public Works Foreman. Performs other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities High school diploma or GED equivalent. Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver's license is required. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to perform physically demanding manual labor, including lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to interact courteously and professionally with Borough residents, coworkers, and the public. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or emergency callouts when necessary. Ability to pass a criminal background check. Preferred Qualifications Graduation from an accredited trade school or vocational training program. Experience in public works, construction, landscaping, municipal maintenance, or a related field. Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand and power tools. Experience operating light equipment or trucks. Knowledge of basic building and grounds maintenance practices. Physical Requirements Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift heavier objects with assistance or appropriate equipment. Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work for extended periods. Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Safely operate Borough vehicles, tools, and equipment. Employment Status This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Work hours are scheduled based on the operational needs of the Department of Public Works and may vary from week to week. Employment in this position does not guarantee a minimum number of hours and does not confer full-time status or benefits unless otherwise provided by Borough policy or applicable law. Pre-Employment Requirements Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check and a review of the applicant's motor vehicle record (MVR). Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver's license throughout their employment. Any suspension, revocation, or unacceptable driving record may disqualify an applicant or result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
