PUBLIC WORKS LABORER

Full Time Schedule:
Monday-Thursday 7AM-5PM Summary This employee is responsible for operating a variety of construction machinery in maintenance, construction, and utility tasks involving City streets and parking lots, and for maintaining the grounds around City Hall, greenway system, all City Parks, and other public buildings. Other duties include inspecting and checking the preventive maintenance and safety of the equipment and playground structures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Performs construction and maintenance tasks throughout the city utilizing equipment including backhoe, excavator, dozer, mower, weedeater, chainsaw, and curb saw, with appropriate CDL license as necessary Operates small heavy equipment such as Kubota tractor, skid steer, mini excavator, or other construction equipment when working on projects Cuts lawn using zero turn, walk behind, and grounds master mowers Weed eat and trim at various locations throughout the City Maintains garden/flower beds around all City buildings, greenway and parks, including planting, weeding, mulching, repairing and building new beds Inspects greenway and drainage structures after heavy rains/flooding and removes mud, silt, and any other debris Inspects and cleans drainage structures Cleans and inspects equipment for mechanical problems and informs supervisor of problems Maintains and cleans related hand tools and equipment Performs additional duties after hours in response to weather or roadway needs Performs other duties as assigned Responds to off-hour calls on a rotating basis Qualifications High School diploma or GED Experience operating construction machinery is preferred Class A or B CDL required Valid driver's license Ability to safely operate and maintain equipment, tools, and materials Ability to lift 49lbs and push, pull, or drag 49lbs Ability to bend, crouch, crawl, and stand for extended periods of time Ability to pass a background check, drug screen, and pre-employment physical
