Utility Worker - Water Construction

Definition:

Under supervision, performs labor in construction, maintenance, operations, and installation of Public Works and Public Utilities. Will perform other duties as required.

Essential Job Functions:

Serve as laborer making water pipe taps, repairs and installation of pipes, hydrants and valves Maintain facility, paint mow, lay brick, and cement; minor building construction work Responsible for minor repairs and maintenance of equipment and vehicle Lifts and carries up to 100 pounds, and pulls, pushes, or drags up to 150 pounds. Uses good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly, wear protective equipment when needed. Must be able to follow both oral and written instructions, keep written records, make reports, communicate with the public and other agencies, strong sense of customer service Count parts and assist in inventory, clean around city facilities, collects samples, repair and post signs, load brush Work in trenches and confined spaces

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

Keep storage areas neat and clean, assists other utility agencies in the field with regards to City facilities and equipment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Proper techniques and uses of a variety of hand tools and power tools. Ability to read addresses, signs, and directions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to obtain a grade "C" Certificate of competency as mandated by the appropriate agency within one (1) year of employment. Six months experience in using hammer, saw, screwdriver, wrench, shovels, drills, power saw.

High School Diploma or Equivalent Possession of Valid Texas Driver's License Satisfactory Driving Record Proof of Citizenship and /or eligibility to work in the U.S. legally Physical Examination Drug Screen Background investigation All City employees are required in the course and scope of their employment to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of Kingsville citizens. City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, and/or immediately after an emergency in accordance with the City of Kingsville Emergency Services Policy No. 12.14 effective July 9, 2001.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds; push, pull and/or drag up to 150 pounds of equipment and /or materials; climbs, crawls, kneels, squats, stoops, stands, sits, and bends when driving or maintaining equipment; hear and see clearly when working around equipment or in traffic. Works outdoors in extreme temperatures and inclement weather with some exposure to dust, fumes, noise, mechanical, electrical, and chemical hazards while using proper safety precautions.
