Job Purpose:

The function of the Technician Recruit is to and perform work in the fieldincludingCommercial Painting,Industrial Painting, and specialized surface preparationaccording to strict methods and procedures as directed by the Project Manager, Superintendent, and/or Technician III. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Develop a basic understanding of and ability to use tools, materials, and equipment involved in the repair and application ofCoatingsandLiningsfor concrete and steel water infrastructure. Master surface preparation techniques, includingPressure WashingandSandblasting, to ensure substrate integrity. Learn and understand standard repair techniques to determine the proper equipment and materials necessary for the installation ofSecondary Containmentsystems and protective barriers. Perform repairs, cleanings, and modifications of concrete and steel water infrastructure under the direction of senior personnel. Understand and follow the directions of senior personnel during the work process. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Some construction experience in the water/wastewater industry, or general experience inIndustrial Paintingand infrastructure repair, is preferred. Basic construction experience, including concrete basics and carpentry skills, is a plus. Must be able to work at different heights off the ground. Must pass a background check, drug screening, Pulmonary Function Test, and Fit Test (required for respiratory protection duringSandblastingand coating applications). Must be a team player and able to work well with a diverse group of personnel. Must be able topass the Services Field Advancement Level 1 Exams and advance to Technician I within one year of employment. Must be able to learn, understand, and apply new technologies regarding advancedCoatingsand application methods.

Working Conditions:

The position requires the individual to be at the shop as well as in the field. Travel is required to go to the job sites and overnight stays away from home will be necessary. While on site, the ability to move around a construction site is needed which will require climbing and working off the ground. Training in the use of different types of personal protective equipment, including fall protection and respirators, will be required. Typical construction site conditions are expected to include loud noises as well as dust and the odors of construction materials being utilized.
