The Helper will assist skilled tradespeople on heavy civil construction projects in industrial facilities. The ideal candidate is a proactive team player who understands earthwork safety, can work safely around large machinery, and takes pride in building solid foundations from the ground up. Duties and Responsibilities Must be able to take direction and follow instructions from upper levels Loads, unloads, and transports construction materials, tools, and structural components across the job site. Assists in clearing debris, removing hazards on the job site. Supports skilled operators, multi-craft, and pipefitters by positioning materials, holding levels, and handling tools. Assists in assembling temporary formwork, mixing concrete, and smoothing or leveling concrete surfaces. Clean up discarded materials, wash down tools, and ensure the workspace meets regulatory safety protocols daily. Set up barricades, cones, and safety signs. Assist with basic traffic control and flagging when required. Must learn and understand all safety hazards related to the work and learn to safely and effectively use or operate work related tools and equipment. The Helper monitors and protects other personnel performing work in high-risk environments. Strictly adhere to safety protocols and PPE requirements Physical Qualification Must be able to push/pull, lift, or carry up to 50 lbs., but may occasionally push/pull, lift, or carry up to 100 lbs. Subject to repetitive use of hands/arms, and legs Hand/eye coordination Must be able to communicate (hear, comprehend, and speak) to safely perform work Will need to be able to perform sedentary to heavy work May operate hand and power tools (electric, gas, and pneumatic) of all types Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis Position may require prolonged bending/twisting, walking, crawling, kneeling, reaching overhead, squatting, pushing /pulling, or standing and lifting Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, muddy conditions, loose rock, loose/soft sand, etc. May be required to work in confined spaces Will be exposed to adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.) Must have the ability to communicate effectively with management/ supervision Reading and writing comprehension is necessary for giving and receiving directions to perform work and/or safety policy Ability to use math/complete calculations Work at various tempos, and concentrate amid distractions Decision making skills necessary Detail-oriented; must be able to remember, examine, and observe details Work Environment The job will primarily be on or around construction/turnaround sites such as in petrochemical operational units and include possible hazardous environments such as confined spaces and working at heights. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, irritants and smoke may occur. Special Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be necessary to control some hazardous environments. Additional forms of PPE may be required depending on the particular project. Safety requirements must be verified and meet standards set forth by client permits, policies and procedures, and be performed in compliance with all federal, state and local laws or ordinances before work activities can begin.
