Job Description

Job Summary:
Seeking a reliable, hard-working individual to perform mixed ranch and construction duties on a working ranch. The role combines animal care and general ranch maintenance with building, repair, and light-to-moderate construction projects. Candidate must be safety-minded, able to work outdoors in variable conditions, and comfortable operating hand and power tools, small equipment, and farm machinery.
Primary Responsibilities:
Feed, water, and check health of livestock; assist with moving, sorting, and basic herd handling. Maintain fences, gates, corrals; repair posts, wire, and gates.
Perform ranch maintenance:
pasture upkeep, irrigation checks, barn and equipment cleaning.
Carry out construction tasks:
framing, basic carpentry, roofing repairs, concrete work, and finishing. Operate and maintain tractors, utility vehicles, skid steers, mowers, and other small equipment. Read basic plans or instructions; measure, cut, and assemble materials to specification. Maintain tools and equipment; perform routine preventive maintenance. Follow safety protocols, handle materials and animals safely, and report hazards. Assist on seasonal projects (fencing installation, outbuilding construction, livestock handling events). Keep daily logs of work completed and communicate with ranch manager/owner.
Required Qualifications:
1+ years combined experience in ranch work, livestock handling, or farming and in construction/carpentry or related trades. Proficiency with hand tools and common power tools; comfortable using basic construction equipment. Valid driver's license; clean driving record preferred. Ability to lift 50+ lbs regularly, work on ladders and uneven terrain, and perform sustained physical labor in all weather. Strong work ethic, punctuality, and ability to work independently or as part of a small team. Basic problem-solving skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and occasional long days during peak seasons.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience operating tractors, skid steers, backhoes, or similar heavy equipment. Fencing, welding, or concrete experience. Certification in OSHA 10 or relevant safety training. First aid/CPR certification and experience handling large livestock (horses, cattle). Basic carpentry certification or trade school training.
Physical Demands & Work Conditions:
Outdoors in varying weather: heat, cold, rain. Repeated lifting, bending, climbing, and prolonged standing. Exposure to dust, noise, animal waste, and chemical/pesticide use (with training).
