Street Department Supervisor Position Summary:
The Municipal Street Department Laborer performs a variety of manual tasks to maintain and repair city streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. This position is essential for ensuring the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of the citys public roadways and infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
Street Maintenance and Repair:
Assist in the maintenance, repair, and construction of city streets, sidewalks, and curbs.
Patch potholes, seal cracks, and repair pavement surfaces.
Spread asphalt, concrete, and other materials as needed.
Drainage System Maintenance:
Clean and maintain storm drains, ditches, and culverts.
Remove debris and obstructions to ensure proper water flow and prevent flooding.
Equipment Operation and Maintenance:
Operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and light to heavy equipment (e.g., jackhammers, compactors, backhoes, dump trucks).
Perform routine maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure safe operation.
Set up and remove traffic control devices such as cones, barricades, and signage for road work projects.
Direct traffic safely around construction zones and street repair sites.
Safety and Compliance:
Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
Report any unsafe conditions or equipment to the supervisor immediately.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in construction, maintenance, or a related field is preferred.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to operate and maintain various types of equipment and tools.
Physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
Basic knowledge of construction and maintenance techniques.
Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid drivers license; CDL preferred or the ability to obtain one
Working Conditions:
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, particularly during emergency situations. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions. The position requires physical strength and endurance, including lifting heavy objects, bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
