LABORER II
An Overview A Laborer II performs skilled and semi-skilled laboring tasks in support of street cleaning, litter control, beautification efforts, seasonal maintenance, and public space operations. Employees in this class perform physically demanding work and are expected to carry out assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established operational and safety procedures. This class differs from Laborer I in that assignments require a greater degree of skill, experience, knowledge of departmental operations, and the ability to perform a broader range of maintenance and field support activities. Employees are expected to demonstrate reliability, initiative, and a commitment to providing high-quality public services. Laborers II typically work under the immediate supervision of a Laborer III, Equipment Operator, or Labor Supervisor who provides work assignments and guidance. Employees may perform routine tasks independently after receiving instruction and may assist Laborers III and Equipment Operators in the completion of daily operational activities. The Opportunity
- Performs litter collection, debris removal, illegal dumping response, alley cleaning, and related street cleaning activities throughout the City;
- Empties public litter receptacles and assists in maintaining clean, safe, and attractive public spaces;
- Assists street sweeping operations by posting temporary no-parking signs, clearing obstacles, cleaning around parked vehicles, and supporting route completion activities;
- Performs pressure washing of litter receptacles, sidewalks, oil spills, graffiti, public facilities, and other City assets located within public rights-of-way;
- Assists with special events, festivals, community gatherings, beautification projects, and related cleanup activities before, during, and after events;
- Picks up and properly disposes of illegally dumped materials, abandoned debris, white goods, tires, and other items located on public property;
- Operates industrial equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, pressure washers, generators, and similar equipment in support of daily operations;
- Operates various light-duty and non-CDL equipment in support of street cleaning, litter control, maintenance activities, special events, beautification efforts, and other operational needs;
- Operates hand tools and powered equipment including drills, saws, blowers, grinders, shop vacuums, string trimmers, and other maintenance equipment;
- Assists with warehouse operations including stocking materials, organizing inventory, maintaining supplies, and supporting equipment readiness;
- Assists with seasonal leaf collection, storm response, emergency operations, snow and ice removal activities, and other public works functions as assigned;
- Performs daily safety checks of assigned tools and equipment and promptly reports unsafe conditions, equipment deficiencies, or operational concerns;
- Responds to citizen inquiries regarding street cleaning, litter control, illegal dumping, and related public works services in a professional and courteous manner;
- Maintains safe work zones and follows all applicable safety procedures, traffic control requirements, and personal protective equipment (PPE) standards;
- Performs related work and other duties as assigned, including supporting divisional operations through the operation of non-CDL refuse vehicles, assisting with refuse collection activities as a Refuse Collector, and providing cross-divisional support during staffing shortages, special projects, emergency operations, and service delivery needs.

Minimum & Additional Requirements The Ideal Candidate To qualify for this position, all candidates must have completed high school, GED or vocational school courses; a bility to perform heavy manual labor in all types of weather; some knowledge of construction or maintenance activities and he equipment and tools of the trade; should have at least one (1) year of experience in any trade; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Preferred Qualifications To be considered the ideal candidate , candidate, one should possess knowledge of departmental operations and procedures related to street cleaning and public works activities; experience using maintenance and construction tools and equipment; ability to follow written instructions, route information, and work orders; and at least two (2) years of experience performing semi-skilled labor in maintenance, construction, transportation, landscaping, street cleaning, or related operations
