Experienced Construction Laborer — Excavation & Underground Utilities (5+ Years) Clear Excavating Puyallup, WA Job Details Full-time $28 - $67 an hour 11 hours ago Qualifications CPR Certification Excavator Outdoor work experience OSHA 10 Construction plans Working on construction projects in a civil infrastructure role Following blueprint specifications Safety hazards Trenching and excavation safety procedures Skid steer loader Full Job Description Clear Excavating LLC is a Puget Sound-based excavation and civil contractor performing site excavation, storm drainage, erosion control, traffic control, and general civil work on both public works and private projects. We're hiring an experienced construction laborer to join our field crews. This is not an entry-level position. We're looking for someone who has spent at least five years on excavation and underground utility crews, knows how to work safely around heavy equipment and open trench, and can be trusted to work productively without constant direction. What You'll Be Doing Hand digging and potholing around existing utilities Assisting with storm drainage installation — pipe laying, bedding, catch basins, manholes, and structures Setting and checking grade off stakes, laser, and grade rod Trench prep, shoring and trench box setup, and backfill Compaction with plate compactor and jumping jack Installing and maintaining erosion control BMPs — silt fence, wattles, catch basin inserts, construction entrances Setting up and maintaining traffic control per approved plans (cones, signs, channelizing devices) Spotting for excavators, loaders, and dump trucks Site cleanup, material handling, and general support for crews and subcontractors Daily equipment checks, tool maintenance, and keeping the job site organized and safe What We Require Minimum 5 years of experience as a construction laborer on excavation, underground utility, or civil projects Ability to read and work from plans, grade stakes, and cut sheets Working knowledge of trench safety and excavation hazards (WISHA/OSHA) Valid Washington State driver's license with an acceptable driving record Reliable transportation to job sites and yard Able to lift and carry 50-75 lbs repeatedly, and work outdoors in all Pacific Northwest weather Able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check Dependable, on time, and able to work as part of a crew Preferred (Not Required) Washington State Flagger card First Aid / CPR certification OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Trench and excavation competent person training Confined space entry training Experience running skid steer, mini excavator, or compact equipment CDL Class A or B Prior public works / prevailing wage project experience
