Job Description

Superintendent - Cold Storage ConstructionPosition Overview We are seeking an experienced Superintendent to lead on-site execution of cold storage construction projects. The Superintendent will be responsible for delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining quality and compliance with design, regulatory and client requirements. The ideal candidate has hands-on cold storage experience, strong construction management skills, and the ability to coordinate specialty trades such as refrigeration, insulation, and vapor barrier installation.

Key ResponsibilitiesOversee daily on-site construction activities and enforce schedule milestones to ensure timely project delivery.

Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, trades and craft workers, including refrigeration, insulation, concrete, steel, and electrical crews.

Manage installation and quality control of cold storage-specific systems: refrigeration equipment, evaporators, condensers, insulation, vapor barriers, and temperature monitoring systems.

Ensure all work complies with contract documents, drawings, specifications, building codes and applicable cold storage standards.

Implement and enforce site safety plans, conduct daily safety briefings, and maintain compliance with OSHA and company safety policies.

Monitor project progress and productivity; prepare and submit daily reports, time sheets, RFIs, and site documentation.

Collaborate with project managers, engineers, commissioning teams and clients to resolve field issues, coordinate deliverables, and support start-up and commissioning activities.

Control site logistics, material staging, equipment utilization and sequence of work to minimize downtime and protect temperature-controlled areas.

Conduct quality inspections, punch list management, and closeout procedures including turnover documentation and warranty coordination.

Manage cost control on-site by tracking labor, materials and equipment usage and flagging potential change orders or budget impacts.

Qualifications5+ years of experience as a Construction Superintendent, with a minimum of 2+ years directly on cold storage or temperature-controlled facility projects.

Proven knowledge of refrigeration systems, thermal insulation, vapor barriers, and cold-chain construction practices.

Strong understanding of construction means and methods, shop drawings, submittals, and QA/QC processes.

Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and construction schedules.

Experience with construction management and scheduling software (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, Microsoft Project) and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Valid drivers license and reliable transportation; ability to travel to job sites and work flexible hours as project demands require.

OSHA 30 (or equivalent) and other relevant safety certifications preferred.

Excellent leadership, communication and problem-solving skills, with a focus on teamwork and client satisfaction.

Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure and maintain accurate field records and documentation.
