VP of Preconstruction Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Preconstruction Manager to lead our preconstruction efforts from initial client engagement through project turnover. This role is responsible for managing estimating, budgeting, value engineering, design coordination, and proposal development for commercial, industrial, healthcare, institutional, and other electrical construction projects. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with strong technical electrical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate with owners, general contractors, engineers, and internal project teams to develop accurate and competitive project solutions. Key Responsibilities - Preconstruction Leadership Lead all preconstruction activities for negotiated and competitive bid projects. Manage project budgets, conceptual estimates, detailed estimates, and cost analyses. Develop and maintain relationships with clients, general contractors, consultants, and design teams. Participate in project pursuit strategies, interviews, proposal presentations, and client meetings. Evaluate project opportunities and recommend bidding strategies. Estimating & Cost Management Oversee preparation of detailed quantity takeoffs and labor estimates. Review plans, specifications, and contract documents for accuracy and completeness. Develop conceptual and schematic budgets during early design phases. Analyze labor productivity, material pricing, subcontractor costs, and market conditions. Prepare value engineering recommendations and cost-saving alternatives. Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with company profit objectives. Design Coordination & Engineering Support Collaborate with engineers, architects, and owners during design development. Review drawings and specifications for constructability and scope gaps. Support design-build and design-assist projects. Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies during preconstruction. Assist in developing project execution plans and procurement strategies. Team Leadership Manage and mentor estimating and preconstruction staff. Coordinate workloads and establish estimating priorities. Develop and improve estimating standards, processes, and databases. Foster collaboration between estimating, project management, and field operations teams. Project Handoff Conduct turnover meetings with project management and operations teams. Ensure accurate transfer of project assumptions, budgets, schedules, and risks. Maintain complete documentation of estimates, proposals, and project qualifications. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field preferred. Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in electrical construction estimating, preconstruction, or project management. Minimum of 3 years in a leadership or management role. Strong understanding of commercial and industrial electrical systems. Experience with negotiated, design-build, and hard-bid project delivery methods. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Proficiency with estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites and client meetings as needed. Preferred Qualifications Experience with Accubid, McCormick, ConEst (Intellibid), Bluebeam, Trimble, or similar estimating platforms. Knowledge of BIM/VDC processes and construction technology. Design-build and design-assist project experience. Electrical license, PE, PMP, or industry certifications are a plus. Experience working with projects ranging from $500,000 to $30+ million.
