Job Description

Heavy Civil Construction Supervisor About the Role J.E. Shurden Construction is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Construction Site Supervisor to lead field operations on projects throughout the United States. This is a travel-based position requiring extensive travel and extended stays at project locations. Candidates must be willing to work away from home for multiple days or weeks at a time based on project needs. What You'll Do Lead and supervise heavy civil construction crews and daily field operations Coordinate manpower, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and daily work activities Plan and sequence work to maintain project schedules and productivity Monitor work for quality and compliance with project plans and specifications Coordinate excavation, grading, underground utility, concrete, and other heavy civil activities as applicable to the project Read and interpret plans, specifications, and project requirements Monitor employee attendance, performance, productivity, and timekeeping Communicate project progress, delays, material needs, and field concerns to company leadership Enforce company and jobsite safety requirements, including proper PPE Conduct or participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, inspections, and project meetings Promptly report injuries, incidents, equipment issues, and significant jobsite concerns What We're Looking For Previous heavy civil construction leadership experience as a Supervisor, Foreman, Superintendent, or similar role Experience leading field crews and coordinating heavy equipment and construction activities Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and schedules Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills Ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced field environment Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record Basic computer and mobile-device proficiency OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 preferred Ability and willingness to travel extensively and work away from home for extended periods Schedule & Travel This position requires extensive travel to projects throughout the United States. Work schedules vary by project and may include early mornings, extended shifts, overtime, weekends, and schedule changes based on project needs. This position works in an active heavy civil construction environment and requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, climb, bend, kneel, wear required PPE, work around heavy equipment, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
