General Contractor - Residential Construction (Nonprofit Organization)

A mission-driven, faith-based nonprofit organization in Fort Smith, AR is seeking a General Contractor to oversee residential construction projects that directly impact families in need. This is a unique opportunity for someone who's passionate about building homes and hope , and who thrives in a collaborative, service-oriented environment working alongside volunteers and partner families . About the
Role:
As a General Contractor, you will be responsible for leading home construction projects from the ground up . You will manage every aspect of the build, without a traditional construction crew , and instead guide volunteers of all experience levels . This role requires independence, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to quality, community, and service.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage residential construction sites from start to finish Supervise, train, and support volunteers—many with little or no construction experience Maintain safety, cleanliness, and efficiency on job sites Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget Communicate effectively with staff, vendors, families, and community partners Represent the organization's faith-based mission and values at all times
Ideal Candidate Will:
Be self-motivated, dependable, and organized Have hands-on experience in residential construction, including full builds from the ground up Understand building codes, permits, and safety regulations Be confident in training and leading volunteers Demonstrate integrity, humility, and a heart for service Be bilingual (English/Spanish preferred) Possess strong communication and leadership skills Be comfortable working in a Christian faith-based environment
Requirements:
At least 4 years of verifiable residential construction experience Stable work history (no more than 3 jobs in the past 5 years) High school diploma or equivalent Valid driver's license and reliable transportation Ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in all weather conditions Willingness to work some Saturdays and adjust schedule as needed Must pass a background check (no felony convictions) Must pass a pre-employment drug screen Must provide a current resume
Compensation:
$40,000 - $60,000 annually (based on experience) This is a nonprofit position working with volunteers, not a standard for-profit crew-led construction role. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated and passionate about service and community development.
