Job Description

The Opportunity The leader who has been supporting our design team is moving into a preconstruction role to grow his career while helping to grow the company. That, and a solid pipeline of projects, opens this seat. You would report directly to the President
  • no layer between you and the decision, and a real voice in where the company goes. Inside your function, you would have wide latitude to build design and prefabrication the way you believe they should be built. You would also be the resident expert. There is genuine support here for how MHP likes to plumb and design a job
  • the outgoing leader will be an excellent resource and mentor on that, and we invest seriously in leadership development.
But on the craft of design itself, you are the authority in the building. Nobody is going to tell you how to do your work. One thing worth knowing about how we operate: on our projects, we prefer to take the lead on design coordination across the trades. We would rather drive that than react to it
  • a well-coordinated design makes our installation efficient and makes the entire job run better for everyone on it.
That is a real part of this role. MHP Thirty-five years plumbing Southern California. Multifamily and affordable housing are our specialty (podium, wrap, slab-on-grade), plus hospitality and select commercial. We design in-house, fabricate in our shop, and install with our own crews. We are large enough to take on significant projects and small enough that the people doing the work are the people making the calls. Our systems and processes are well established, and we are always looking for better ways to do what we do. Nobody here protects territory; the whole place runs on people supporting each other and saying the useful thing out loud. We are also a growing company at an inflection point. What this business becomes over the next decade is being decided right now. Our purpose is to create opportunities for people to grow and achieve their highest levels of success. Our core values
  • Own It, Find a Way, Evolve Together, Care Enough to Say, Make It Easier
  • are the actual filter we hire, coach, and make decisions by. The Work Lead the design team. Direction, workload, quality, and the development of the designers on it. Own the design product. Award through closeout
  • layouts, piping, spooling, BOMs, and complete packages the shop and field can build from.
Lead trade coordination and BIM. Assemble the models, run the clashes, and solve them in the room. Take us through Revit. Standards, project setup, templates, and training the designers already here while production keeps moving. Run it like a business. Hours against budget, capacity, and the processes the department needs as volume grows. What You Bring A real plumbing background. Journeyman-level field time or better. You have installed what you draw. Substantial commercial design experience. Multifamily and podium strongly preferred. Revit at the setup level. Templates, worksets, links, families, sheets
  • standing a project up, not just modeling in one.
BIM coordination. Model assembly, clash detection, and the quick routing solution that resolves a conflict without a redesign. Fabrication fluency. Design that serves the shop instead of fighting it. Code command. The CPC/UPC as it actually applies to multifamily and podium construction. The ability to lead. Delegate, develop people, and hold a standard without being heavy about it. A view past your own department. What happens upstream in estimating and downstream in the shop and the field is your business too. This is the right seat for someone exacting about the work, impatient with waste, and interested in the whole business rather than one function of it.
