This role is ideal for someone with strong construction estimating experience, proven sales experience, the ability to read plans and blueprints, and the confidence to manage opportunities from lead intake through estimate, proposal, follow-up, contract, and project handoff. We are looking for a serious construction professional - not just a salesperson. The right person understands takeoffs, scopes of work, job costs, pricing, margins, customer communication, follow-up, and how to close profitable projects. About LA Decks LA Decks is a premium outdoor construction company serving Los Angeles, Orange County, and surrounding areas. We specialize in high-end decks, siding, cladding, fences, outdoor structures, waterproofing, refinishing, and exterior remodeling projects. We have more than 25 years of experience, thousands of completed projects, experienced crews, premium material knowledge, and showroom support. Our office/showroom is located in Gardena, CA. LA Decks works closely with Beyond Lumber, our in-house material supplier and direct importer of premium decking, siding, and fencing materials. This gives our estimating team direct access to material availability, stocked products, and direct-importer pricing, so most core material pricing is available in-house without having to chase outside vendors for every quote.
Location / Office
-Based Work This position is based in Gardena, CA, in the Los Angeles area. This is an office-based position. Work from the Gardena office/showroom is required. In-person site visits, client meetings, showroom meetings, and team coordination are required as needed.. Responsibilities- Prepare accurate estimates, proposals, scopes of work, and project budgets for decking, siding, fencing, exterior construction, commercial, public works, and larger residential projects.
- Review plans, blueprints, construction drawings, bid documents, specifications, and project requirements.
- Perform material takeoffs and coordinate pricing for labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment, permits, project-specific needs, and other costs. Work with our in-house material resources and Beyond Lumber pricing/inventory to prepare faster and more accurate estimates.
- Lead sales opportunities from lead intake through site visit, estimate, proposal, follow-up, negotiation, contract, and project handoff.
- Communicate professionally with homeowners, general contractors, architects, designers, property managers, HOAs, cities, public agencies, vendors, and internal teams.
- Build and manage a pipeline of commercial, public works, bid/tender, and larger private opportunities.
- Follow up consistently with prospects, open proposals, contractors, and customers to help close profitable projects.
- Use the company CRM to track leads, notes, follow-ups, pipeline stages, proposal status, and customer communication.
- Work closely with ownership, operations, project managers, and field teams to ensure estimates are realistic and projects are handed off smoothly.
- Support residential sales opportunities when assigned. Requirements
- Construction estimating experience is required. Senior-level estimating experience is strongly preferred.
- Sales experience is required. Candidate must be comfortable speaking with customers, following up, presenting proposals, and helping close deals.
- Experience with siding, decking, fencing, exterior construction, remodeling, commercial construction, or related trades is required or strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Experience preparing takeoffs, estimates, proposals, scopes of work, and project budgets.
- Strong understanding of labor, material costs, subcontractor pricing, project costs, margins, and job profitability.
- Strong communication, organization, documentation, and follow-up skills.
- Comfortable working in a CRM and keeping all leads, notes, tasks, and opportunities updated.
- Ability to manage multiple active opportunities, deadlines, bids, and proposals at the same time.
- Must be able to work full-time from the Gardena office/showroom, plus site visits and client meetings as needed.
- Experience with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Bluebeam, takeoff software, or similar tools is a plus.
- A degree in Construction Management or a related field is a plus, but not required.
- Public works, bid/tender, commercial estimating, or contractor-facing sales experience is a strong plus. Compensation
- $90,000 - $200,000 per year estimated total compensation, depending on experience, performance, closed sales, collected revenue, and project profitability.
- Compensation includes a $7,500/month recoverable draw/base during the initial period plus commission, subject to the company's written commission plan.
- Strong commission upside for a candidate who can estimate accurately, manage opportunities professionally, and close profitable projects.
