Job Description

The Residential Construction Foreman is a critical, hands-on leadership role responsible for the daily on-site supervision, coordination, and execution of residential building projects. Acting as the bridge between upper management (Project Managers/Superintendents) and the field, the Foreman ensures that framing, finishes, and trade installations are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and to the highest standards of quality.

This role requires a blend of strong crew leadership, deep technical knowledge of residential building systems, and a willingness to work alongside the team when necessary.

Key Responsibilities1. Site Supervision & Crew LeadershipSupervise, motivate, and direct the daily activities of carpentry crews, laborers, and apprentices. Assign daily tasks to crew members based on their skill levels and project priorities. Provide hands-on training and mentorship to junior crew members to improve trade skills and productivity. Monitor attendance, track labor hours, and maintain a positive, productive team environment. 2. Project Execution & Quality ControlAccurately interpret residential blueprints, structural drawings, and architectural specifications. Oversee layout, framing, window/door installations, exterior trim, and finish carpentry.

Coordinate and monitor the work of specialty subcontractors (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, roofing) to ensure seamless workflow sequencing.

Conduct continuous quality control inspections to catch and correct defects or code violations before they impact the schedule. Walk the site daily with city building inspectors, structural engineers, and clients as required.3. Safety EnforcementEnforce a strict safety culture on-site, ensuring 100% compliance with OSHA standards and company safety policies. Conduct regular "toolbox talks" (safety briefings) and document on-site safety inspections. Ensure all personnel, subcontractors, and visitors use proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Identify, mitigate, and report any hazardous site conditions immediately. 4. Logistics & Materials ManagementReview upcoming phases of construction to estimate, order, and stage required materials, tools, and hardware.

Inspect material deliveries for accuracy and quality; report discrepancies or damaged goods immediately. Oversee the secure storage, proper use, and routine maintenance of company tools, vehicles, and equipment. 5. Communication & AdministrationMaintain open, professional communication with Project Managers, detailing daily progress, delays, or material shortages. Keep daily digital logs, track material receipts, and assist in maintaining the master project schedule.

Interact professionally with clients, homeowners, or neighbors to resolve minor on-site inquiries or complaints.

Qualifications & RequirementsExperience & EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent; a degree in Construction Management or completion of a trade apprenticeship is a plus.

Minimum of 57 years of hands-on experience in residential construction (framing, trim carpentry, and general remodeling).Minimum of 23 years in a supervisory or lead carpenter/foreman role.

Technical SkillsAdvanced proficiency in reading and interpreting residential blueprints, site plans, and structural details. Deep knowledge of standard residential building codes, construction sequencing, and modern building materials. Proficiency with standard construction tools, wet tile saws, smart drills, routers, and safety equipment.

Basic computer/smartphone literacy for submitting daily reports, tracking hours, and viewing digital plans.

Key CertificationsValid U.S. driver's license with a clean driving record (required for moving between job sites). OSHA 10-Hour or 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification (strongly preferred or required within 30 days of hire).First Aid/CPR Certification is preferred. Physical Requirements & Working ConditionsMust be able to work outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, snow, rain). Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, and kneel for extended periods (8+ hours per day). Ability to safely lift and carry up to 75 lbs unassisted.
