Job Description

Constructability Specialist Affiniti Architects Boca Raton, FL Job Details Full-time $90,000 - $110,000 a year 1 day ago Benefits Health insurance Dental insurance 401(k) Paid time off Vision insurance 401(k) matching Qualifications Teamwork Construction industry experience Lumion In-home experience Construction administration project phase Full Job Description Affiniti Architects is seeking an experienced construction or design professional to join our team as Director of Constructability . We are a high-end residential architecture firm specializing in custom homes that demand thoughtful design, technical precision, and exceptional execution. We believe great architecture requires more than compelling design—it requires a thorough understanding of how buildings actually come together. The Director of Constructability will bridge architectural design and real-world construction, helping ensure our projects are thoroughly coordinated, technically sound, and constructible before they reach the field. This position combines construction document reviews, constructability assessments, interdisciplinary coordination, building code awareness, field observations, and construction-phase problem-solving. We are looking for someone who can review a set of drawings and see not just what is designed, but how it will actually be built. Someone who recognizes potential conflicts, anticipates challenges, understands construction sequencing, and can offer practical solutions before problems become costly or disruptive. An architectural degree or professional license is not required. We welcome candidates with strong backgrounds in custom residential construction, structural engineering, architectural project management, or related technical fields.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Construction Document Review & Quality Control Review architectural drawing sets for constructability, completeness, technical consistency, and coordination. Identify missing information, conflicting details, and potential construction challenges. Evaluate complex architectural conditions, building assemblies, roof systems, structural transitions, waterproofing, and other critical details. Provide clear, actionable review comments and collaborate with project teams to resolve issues. Constructability & Coordination Review architectural drawings alongside structural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing documents to identify potential conflicts. Evaluate the integration of building systems, construction sequencing, and practical installation methods. Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to identify effective solutions. Construction Observation & Field Support Visit active construction projects to observe progress and general conformance with architectural documents. Assist with resolving field conditions, construction discrepancies, and Requests for Information (RFIs). Participate in construction meetings and coordinate with builders, consultants, and project teams. Support construction administration while respecting the contractor's responsibility for construction means, methods, and site supervision. Technical Standards & Code Awareness Review documents for potential building code concerns, particularly those relevant to South Florida residential construction. Help improve internal quality-control procedures, technical details, and documentation standards. Share practical construction knowledge with project teams and help prevent recurring problems.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
We recognize that the right person may come from several professional backgrounds.
We are particularly interested in:
Custom Home Superintendents / Construction Managers with extensive experience building high-end residences. Residential Structural Engineers / Structural Designers with strong experience in complex custom-home construction. Senior Architectural Project Managers / Technical Architects with expertise in construction documentation and field coordination. Building Officials / Plans Examiners with substantial residential construction knowledge. Experienced Custom Home Builders with broad technical expertise and practical problem-solving abilities. Candidates are not expected to have experience in all these disciplines. We are looking for the right combination of technical knowledge, construction experience, and sound professional judgment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Substantial experience in custom residential construction, architecture, structural engineering, or a related field. Strong ability to read, interpret, and critically evaluate architectural and engineering drawings. Thorough understanding of residential construction methods, materials, assemblies, and building systems. Experience identifying and resolving construction conflicts or coordination issues. Familiarity with residential building codes, particularly the Florida Building Code. Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with architects, engineers, builders, and project managers. Willingness to visit construction sites throughout South Florida. Experience with high-end custom homes, complex structural systems, building-envelope detailing, and hurricane-resistant construction is particularly valuable. Practical experience and demonstrated technical judgment are our priorities.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
The Director of Constructability will become a trusted technical resource across the firm, helping our teams produce better coordinated construction documents, identify potential problems earlier, and resolve construction challenges more effectively. The goal is not simply to find mistakes. It is to help the entire team produce better buildings and better construction documents.
WHY JOIN AFFINITI?
This is a unique opportunity to apply years of construction or technical expertise in a collaborative architectural environment focused on exceptional custom residential projects. For experienced construction professionals, the role offers an opportunity to remain involved in challenging, high-quality residential construction without the day-to-day responsibility of managing jobsites. For experienced architectural or engineering professionals, it provides an opportunity to focus on technical excellence, constructability, and solving complex building challenges. If you've spent your career building, designing, reviewing, or solving problems in custom residential construction, we'd welcome the opportunity to speak with you.
