Job Description
Young Management & Consulting (YMC) is seeking an experienced Civil Coordinator to support construction activities at a power generation facility. This position will provide field coordination, construction oversight, quality surveillance, safety support, contractor management, and technical coordination for civil and structural scopes throughout the project lifecycle. The Civil Coordinator will serve as a key interface between Site Management, Engineering, contractors, subcontractors, Quality, Safety, Project Controls, and other construction disciplines. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience with civil construction in power generation, energy, heavy industrial, or similar complex construction environments and possess a strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, quality requirements, and field execution. This role requires a highly visible field presence and the ability to identify potential issues early, coordinate solutions, and help drive construction activities safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project schedule, budget, and quality expectations. Key ResponsibilitiesCivil Construction Coordination Provide day-to-day field coordination and oversight of civil and structural construction activities. Monitor contractor and subcontractor activities for compliance with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, and project requirements.
Coordinate civil construction activities including:
Site preparation and grading Excavation and backfill Soil stabilization and compaction Concrete foundations and equipment pads Structural concrete Underground utilities Stormwater and drainage systems Roads, paving, and site access Structural steel interfaces Trenches, duct banks, and underground electrical infrastructure Building and equipment foundations Coordinate civil work with mechanical, electrical, structural, instrumentation and controls, and other construction disciplines. Review upcoming work activities to identify constructability concerns, access issues, sequencing conflicts, or potential schedule impacts. Verify contractors have the necessary drawings, materials, equipment, manpower, permits, and information required to execute planned work. Assist Site Management with contractor oversight and administration of construction contracts. Safety & Environmental Compliance Promote and maintain a strong safety culture throughout all field activities. Monitor civil construction operations for compliance with project safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable environmental regulations. Conduct and document required STEP safety observations and CRM observations in accordance with project requirements. Provide immediate feedback to field personnel regarding unsafe conditions, behaviors, or work practices. Participate in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) reviews for upcoming construction activities. Participate in contractor safety orientations, pre-mobilization meetings, and field safety discussions. Coordinate with Safety and Environmental personnel regarding excavation, trenching, confined spaces, heavy equipment operations, environmental controls, and other civil construction risks. Promote proactive hazard identification and corrective action throughout the project. Quality Assurance & Construction Inspection Inspect civil and structural installations to verify compliance with construction drawings, specifications, approved submittals, applicable codes, and project quality standards. Verify contractor Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) are established, approved, and properly implemented. Perform required Construction Quality Surveillances (CQS) and document observations and findings. Monitor concrete placement activities, reinforcement, formwork, embeds, anchor bolts, foundations, and associated civil installations. Monitor excavation, backfill, compaction, grading, and underground utility installation activities. Verify required inspections, testing, documentation, and quality records are completed before work progresses to subsequent phases. Identify nonconforming work and coordinate with Quality, Engineering, and contractors to develop appropriate corrective actions. Track deficiencies, punch-list items, and corrective actions through completion. Support turnover documentation and verification of completed civil systems and installations. Planning, Scheduling & Progress Monitoring Assist with construction planning, sequencing, and coordination to support project schedule and cost objectives. Review short-term and look-ahead schedules for civil construction activities. Monitor installed quantities and construction progress against established project milestones. Identify potential delays, constraints, and resource concerns and communicate them to Site Management and Project Controls. Coordinate upcoming civil activities with contractors and other disciplines to minimize field conflicts. Track material and equipment delivery schedules to ensure resources are available when required. Support recovery planning when civil construction activities fall behind schedule. Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly construction planning meetings as required. Contractor & Stakeholder Coordination Serve as a primary field interface with civil contractors and subcontractors. Monitor contractor performance related to safety, quality, schedule, productivity, and contractual requirements. Participate in pre-bid, pre-construction, pre-mobilization, contractor orientation, JSA/JHA, progress, and coordination meetings. Coordinate technical questions between contractors, Engineering, and Site Management. Assist in resolving drawing conflicts, field conditions, constructability issues, and installation concerns. Maintain professional and productive relationships with contractors, vendors, Engineering, and project stakeholders. Document significant field activities, contractor performance issues, and project concerns. Change Management & Risk Support the project's formal Change Management process. Identify potential scope changes, differing site conditions, drawing discrepancies, and out-of-scope contractor activities. Assist with documenting, tracking, and validating construction changes. Provide field information necessary to evaluate potential cost and schedule impacts. Participate in project risk identification and mitigation efforts. Contribute to Lessons Learned and Best Practices throughout construction. Proactively identify emerging risks and communicate them to project leadership before they negatively impact construction. Multidiscipline Coordination Coordinate civil activities with electrical, mechanical, structural, and instrumentation construction teams. Support planning for underground electrical infrastructure, including duct banks, conduit systems, manholes, grounding interfaces, and equipment foundations. Coordinate foundation and embedded-item requirements for major electrical and mechanical equipment. Verify civil work is completed and released in accordance with requirements for subsequent equipment installation. Assist in resolving interface issues between underground utilities, foundations, structural systems, and above-ground installations. Support construction sequencing required for equipment setting, electrical installation, cable routing, and commissioning activities. Required Qualifications Demonstrated experience coordinating or overseeing civil construction activities on power generation, energy, utility, heavy industrial, or large infrastructure projects. Strong knowledge of civil construction means, methods, sequencing, and field execution. Experience with earthwork, excavation, grading, concrete, foundations, underground utilities, drainage, and related civil construction activities. Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and construction safety practices. Understanding of construction quality assurance and quality control processes. Experience working with Inspection and Test Plans, construction inspections, quality surveillance, and corrective-action processes. Ability to read and interpret civil and structural drawings, specifications, technical documents, and construction schedules. Experience coordinating contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams. Ability to identify field issues, analyze potential solutions, and coordinate resolution with appropriate project stakeholders. Strong organizational and documentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and general construction/project management software. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary project team. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience working on conventional power generation construction projects or operating power plant facilities. Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline. Experience supporting major EPC construction projects. Experience with concrete foundations for major power generation equipment and electrical infrastructure. Knowledge of structural steel erection and structural/civil interfaces. Experience with underground electrical systems, duct banks, conduit, grounding systems, and cable trench construction. Familiarity with medium-voltage electrical construction and electrical installation sequencing. Experience coordinating civil activities supporting transformers, switchgear, substations, generators, turbines, or other major plant equipment. Experience with construction turnover, commissioning support, and project closeout. Previous experience overseeing contractors or other field coordination personnel. The Civil Coordinator must be comfortable working around heavy construction equipment, excavations, concrete operations, electrical infrastructure, industrial equipment, and multiple contractors performing concurrent construction activities. The position may require extended periods of standing and walking, climbing stairs or ladders, navigating uneven terrain, working outdoors in varying weather conditions, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Work schedules may include extended hours, weekends, or shifts as required to support project construction activities.Job Type:
