Health and Safety Assistant Location:

Area Coordinator About the Role As a Health and Safety Assistant , you will play a critical dual role: ensuring the health, safety, and regulatory compliance of assigned residential sites while delivering direct support and mentoring new team members. You will oversee medical appointments, medication management, health documentation, and site safety inspections, serving as a vital link between direct care staff and agency leadership. Key Responsibilities Health & Medication Management:
Coordinate medication orders, manage refills, reconcile weekly Electronic Medication Administration Records (EMARs), and ensure proper recording of medication changes.
Appointments & Medical Coordination:
Schedule, coordinate transportation for, and accompany clients to medical and mental health appointments; ensure annual physicals are completed.
Site Mentorship & Direct Care:
Mentor and train new DSPs on site safety protocols, hygiene support, and person-centered care. Fill in direct support care shifts as needed.
Safety & Compliance Inspections:
Conduct monthly health and safety audits, maintain medical supply inventory, and complete monthly accountability checklists for the Area Coordinator.
On-Call & Scheduling Support:
Participate in the site on-call rotation, help cover vacant shifts efficiently, and maintain flexible availability for site emergencies.
Documentation & Reporting:
Review and maintain monthly health logs, incident reports, shift checklists, and service notes in accordance with HCBS and HIPAA regulations. Why Join Us?

Requirements:
Qualifications/Requirements:
Associate's Degree in Human Services or related field preferred. At least two (2) years of experience working with basic knowledge of Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) programs; specific to caring for adults with disabilities. Prior medical/nursing experience preferred. Must possess basic knowledge of computers and computer-based programs. Satisfactory results on background checks pertaining to criminal and abuse registries. Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds without restrictions. Successfully complete all new hire orientation checklist. Satisfactory attend all required trainings by agency. Successfully complete the established medication administration training and observe pass medications accordingly. Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license and personal auto insurance as required by the State of Iowa and be insurable under the company's insurance. Ability to travel at least 25% of the time and to work occasional evenings and weekends for meetings and/or events. Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within the initial 30 days of employment, and actively maintain certification throughout employment.
