Job Title:
Superintendent - Solar Construction (Contract)Job Description The Superintendent oversees day-to-day field operations for a 1-megawatt solar project, ensuring strict safety compliance, high-quality construction, and clear communication between the client, subcontractors, and internal teams. This role focuses on supervision, coordination, and problem-solving on site rather than physical labor, and offers the opportunity to grow into a broader commercial and industrial portfolio within a fast-growing clean energy construction sector. Responsibilities Oversee daily on-site construction activities for a 1-megawatt solar field, ensuring work progresses safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications. Act as the primary on-site representative, serving as the eyes and ears of the project team and maintaining a strong presence in the field. Ensure strict adherence to OSHA safety standards and site-specific safety protocols, proactively identifying and addressing potential hazards. Monitor and enforce compliance with solar, basic civil, and electrical codes and standards throughout the project. Manage and coordinate subcontractors on site, including scheduling, sequencing work, and resolving conflicts or issues that arise. Maintain a high level of communication with the client, providing clear updates on progress, issues, and schedule impacts. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, including project management and engineering teams, to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and quality expectations. Use construction management software, including Procore, to track progress, document work, and support reporting and documentation requirements. Review work in the field for quality and conformance to drawings, specifications, and industry best practices. Identify and escalate potential delays, constraints, or risks, working with the broader project team to develop and implement mitigation plans. Support project closeout activities, including punch list management and verification that all work meets project and safety requirements. Uphold a culture of safety, professionalism, and accountability on site, modeling expected behaviors for all subcontractors and site personnel. Essential Skills At least 2+ years of experience as a Superintendent in construction, with experience gained at a contractor or general contractor. Proven experience managing subcontractors on site, including coordination, oversight, and performance management. OSHA 10 certification. Strong understanding of construction practices and codes related to solar, basic civil work, and electrical systems. Ability to be on site five days per week for the duration of the contract. Experience using construction management software, including Procore. Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients and internal stakeholders. Local availability to the project site. Availability to commit to a 5-6 month contract assignment. Additional Skills & Qualifications OSHA 30 certification is preferred and considered a strong asset. Background in construction management and project management in construction environments. Experience in solar construction or other clean energy projects such as energy storage or EV charging. Ability to work effectively in a fast-growing, dynamic construction sector. Interest in opportunities that may extend into commercial and industrial portfolios after successful completion of the contract. Work Environment This role is based on site at a 1-megawatt solar field, working closely with a primary contractor on location. The Superintendent works in an outdoor construction environment, regularly moving around the site to observe and supervise work. The position is on site five days per week and is focused on oversight and coordination rather than physical labor. The work involves frequent interaction with subcontractors, the client, and internal project teams, and relies on construction management tools such as Procore to support documentation and communication. The environment reflects a dynamic, full-service clean energy development and EPC setting, offering exposure to solar, energy storage, EV charging, and grid-adjacent work, with a more stable workload than some traditional construction sectors. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Des Plaines, IL. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $49.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
