Sewer System & Water Loop Position Type:
Full-time, Project-based, Traveling Role as required
Position Summary:
The Project Superintendent will serve as B2 Constructors' on-site field leader and Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) for a VA campus utilities project involving storm and sanitary sewer improvements, excavation/trenching, tie-ins/cutovers, and full surface restoration in an active facility environment. This position is responsible for overall on-site construction success, driving the schedule, coordinating stakeholders, leading subcontractors, enforcing safety, maintaining documentation, and supporting turnover. Essential Duties & Responsibilities 1.
Preconstruction / Startup
Thoroughly review contract documents to fully understand project scope, drawings, phasing constraints, and schedule. Establish site logistics and work sequencing (access, laydown, material flow, traffic/pedestrian routing, protection of existing operations). 2. Field Leadership & Coordination Supervise and manage subcontractors and daily construction activities; provide direction to keep production on track. Attend on-site meetings and frequently lead them; run daily morning coordination meetings with subcontractors and VA/Owner representatives. Coordinate shutdowns, tie-ins/cutovers, and work windows to minimize impacts to campus operations. Communicate effectively between the VA/Owner, subcontractors, and B2 home office to prevent delays and resolve field issues. 3. Schedule & Performance Control Maintain field production flow and hold subcontractors accountable to the schedule by identifying slippage early and driving recovery actions. Maintain a rolling punch list with clear ownership and due dates; drive completion continuously (not just at the end. 4. Documentation & Reporting Produce accurate, highly detailed daily reports with sufficient photos to document the full work area, including delays, unforeseen conditions, safety issues, quality concerns, and progress. Proactively develop, address, and track RFIs to prevent stoppages and keep construction moving. Make real-time updates to redline/as-built drawings and ensure subcontractors do the same. Maintain daily sign-in/sign-out sheets and other required on-site logs. 5. Safety Leadership (SSHO Duties) Lead field execution to meet contract quality requirements; the Superintendent is responsible for quality and may be removed for non-compliance. Support the project CQC requirements and three-phase control execution; coordinate inspections, punch, rework prevention, and documentation flow. 6. Schedule & Look-Ahead Planning Enforce the site safety plan and safety standards for all personnel on-site. Conduct routine safety inspections/audits, immediately address hazards, and document corrective actions. Ensure competent-person coverage and compliance for applicable high-hazard work (including excavation/trenching). 7. Workmanship Oversight & Deliveries Conduct routine field inspections of subcontractor work for compliance with approved submittals, plans, and specifications. Receive material deliveries; document and report discrepancies promptly. 8. Closeout/Turnover Lead commissioning and turnover activities as applicable to ensure timely handover, training, and closeout readiness. Support change management in the field (tracking impacts, documenting issues/conditions, and communicating with the PM team). Work with Project Managers on monthly pay applications by providing percent-complete assessments and schedule updates.
Candidate Requirements:
Extremely detail-oriented with excellent communication skills; able to submit daily progress reports with photos (high level of detail is mandatory). Strong field experience across commercial/industrial construction, with depth in underground utilities and site work (water/sewer, excavation/trenching, restoration), and working knowledge of other trades as needed (concrete, paving, striping, MEP coordination. Highly proficient with computers and able to learn new software quickly; strong proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook; MS Project preferred). Self-starter who can lead without constant direction; capable of maintaining a productive, safe worksite and driving subcontractor performance. Strong problem-solving mindset; able to think creatively to resolve field constraints while protecting safety, schedule, and overall project success. 10+ years of commercial/industrial construction experience. OSHA 30 (current within the last 5 years, or ability to become certified/recertified immediately upon hire). 5+ years of Procore experience working for a General Contractor. Procore Superintendent certified or the ability to get certified immediately. Position:
When the Superintendent is between projects, you can live/stay wherever you prefer, as the daily work will involve working with the estimating and/or project management teams in preparation for the next project to start. The tasks and responsibilities here would include attending site visits to gather info needed for bidding, assisting lead estimators, engaging subcontractors both electronically and via phone, reviewing and vetting subcontractor bids, and helping lead estimators prepare the estimate.
