Job Description

In addition, Middlesex Asphalt in Central Florida is one of the largest and most productive asphalt plants in the United States with Middlesex Paving earning an equally solid regional presence and reputation.
Position Summary:
The Mechanical Superintendent is responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all mechanical operations on heavy civil construction projects. This role oversees the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical systems and equipment to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project plans, specifications, and schedules. The Mechanical Superintendent works closely with project management, field supervision, equipment, and subcontractors to support successful project delivery.
Responsibilities:
Comply with (and actively promote) all Safety policies and procedures including reporting all accidents, incidents and near-misses to ensure adherence to our Number One Core Value - Safety first, in everything we do. Supervise daily mechanical operations on heavy civil projects, including equipment installation, repairs, and maintenance activities Plan and coordinate manpower, equipment, tools, and materials to meet project schedules and productivity goals Oversee mechanics, welders, and mechanical crews, providing direction, mentoring, and performance oversight Coordinate closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, Fleet, and subcontractors to resolve mechanical issues and minimize downtime Inspect mechanical work to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, manufacturer requirements, and quality standards Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical problems in the field, including hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems Assist with equipment planning, mobilization, and demobilization for projects Review and support preventive maintenance programs and repair schedules for heavy equipment Maintain accurate documentation including daily reports, equipment logs, repair records, and safety documentation Participate in project planning meetings, job briefings, and coordination meetings Support training initiatives for mechanical personnel and promote best practices in maintenance and repairs Ensure proper housekeeping, organization, and care of tools, equipment, and work areas
Qualifications:
Minimum 5 - 8 years of experience in mechanical supervision or lead mechanic roles on heavy civil construction projects Strong working knowledge of heavy civil equipment including earthmoving, paving, concrete, crane, and support equipment Proven leadership experience managing mechanical crews in a field environment Solid understanding of hydraulic, electrical, diesel, and mechanical systems Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and project plans Strong communication and coordination skills with field and management teams Commitment to safety and quality with a hands-on leadership approach Proficient with tablets, mobile devices, and basic computer applications for reporting and documentation Valid driver's license required; CDL preferred but not required OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Manufacturer or industry mechanical certifications Welding certifications (preferred, not required)
